6. Dust from mining area and proposal of dust emission factors
Sammanfattning : Mining generates great deal of particulate matter, especially for surface mining. The principle of dust generation is based on the theory of soil wind erosion. This thesis theoretically and experimentally dealt with mining dust. In chapter 1 the development of study on soil erosion by wind and mining dust were introduced. LÄS MER
7. Estimation of industrial dust using exposure-profiling method
Sammanfattning : Dust is a primary cause for air quality deterioration, as well as a potential health hazard. Mining and construction sites, in particular, are the most profound in dust generation. The possible source activities are drilling, loading, transporting, dumping, crushing, stockpiles, waste rock and unprotected open surfaces, etc. LÄS MER
8. Turbulence Modelling and Parallel Solver Development Relevant for Investigation of Gas Turbine Cooling Processes
Sammanfattning : To enhance the performance of gas turbine engines, high top-cycle temperatures are desired. However, the temperature is limited by current materials. LÄS MER
9. Studies on bone and mineral disorders in CKD : determinants and survival implications
Sammanfattning : Disruptions in mineral metabolism occur already at an early stage of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may eventually lead to a complex of CKD - mineral and bone disorders (CKD-MBD) characterized by alterations of the mass, turnover rate, mineralization and strength of bones, and high risk of vascular calcification, fractures and other complications resulting in worse survival. The aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of some aspects of CKD-MBD with special emphasis on clinical and laboratory determinants and implications for clinical outcome. LÄS MER
10. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) in pancreatic cancer cell aggressiveness and therapeutic resistance and the potential role for pancreatic endocrine cells in islet transplantation
Sammanfattning : Tissue hypoxia results from an inadequate supply of oxygen (O2) that compromises biologic functions in various tissues, including both normal and malignant. It is known that a heterodimeric transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) mainly mediates this critical adaptation. LÄS MER
