21. Targeted Long-read Sequencing : Development and Applications in Medical Genetics
Sammanfattning : Targeted sequencing has the advantage of providing pinpointed DNA information, while costs and data-analysis efforts are reduced. If targeted sequencing is combined with single molecule long-read sequencing, it can become a powerful tool to investigate genomic regions traditionally difficult using the predominantly used short-read sequencing platforms, including repetitive regions and large structural variants. 22. Pharmacological targeting of p53 pathway alterations in tumors
Sammanfattning : The p53 tumor suppressor plays an important role in cell fate decisions upon diverse stress conditions. In response to stress, p53 functions as a transcription factor, activating transcription of a variety of its target genes responsible for several cellular responses, most importantly cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. 23. Factors of importance for radiosensitivity of tonsillar carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy (RT) alone or in combination with surgery is the only curative treatment of tonsillar carcinoma (TC). As distant metastases are rare the loco-regional control is the most important factor determining survival. Methods for prediction of radiocurability are lacking. LÄS MER
24. Genetic susceptibility to cervical and gastric cancer
Sammanfattning : Cervical and gastric cancer both to a large extent depend on infectious agents. Cervical infection with human papilloma virus increases the risk for cervical cancer substantially, and infection with the bacteria Helicobacter pylori increases the risk for gastric cancer. LÄS MER
25. Tonsillar cancer : incidence, prevalence of HPV and survival
Sammanfattning : Since human papilloma virus (HPV) in the mid 1980ies was first observed in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, its role and impact, especially on oral and oropharyngeal cancer, have attracted extensive interest. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if the clinical impression of increased incidence of tonsillar cancer was true, and if HPV could be linked to this increase. LÄS MER
