11. The initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc induced by carboxylic acids : Quantitative in situ analysis and computer simulations
Sammanfattning : Degradation of metals through atmospheric corrosion is a most important and costly phenomenon with significant effects on, e.g., the lifespan of industrial materials, the reliability of electronic components and military equipment, and the aesthetic appearance of our cultural heritage. 12. The role of particles on initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc : lateral distribution, secondary spreading and CO2-/SO2-influence
Sammanfattning : The role of sodium chloride (NaCl) particles and ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) particles on the initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc was investigated under in situ and ex situ conditions using microgravimetry, FTIR spectroscopy, ion chromatography, scanning electron microscopy with x-ray microanalysis and the scanning Kelvin probe. For the first time, in situ infrared spectra were collected on a micron level during particle induced atmospheric corrosion using a recently developed experimental set-up for in situ FTIR microspectroscopy. 13. Atmospheric corrosion and runoff processes on copper and zinc as roofing materials
Sammanfattning : An extensive investigation with parallel field andlaboratory exposures has been conducted to elucidateatmospheric corrosion and metal runoff processes on copper andzinc used for roofing applications. Detailed studies have beenperformed to disclose the effect of various parameters on therunoff rate including: surface inclination and orientation, natural patination (age), patina composition, rain duration andvolume, rain pH, and length of dry periods inbetween rainevents. 14. Recovery of copper and zinc in ashes from municipal solid waste combustion
Sammanfattning : The amount of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash has increased in many parts of the world in recent years. Ashes from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) may be a cumbersome waste to handle since containing significant amounts of leachable hazardous metal species and must be landfilled in special sites at high costs.
