6. Interactions and dynamics in biophysical model systems
Sammanfattning : Computer simulations of simplified model systems provide understanding of how complex biological systems behave. The simulations give detailed information about the systems, with atomistic resolution, that can be used in combination with experimental knowledge to shed light on underlying physical principles. 7. Exploring molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets : Manipulating affinity by chemical modifications
Sammanfattning : In this thesis molecular interactions between polypeptide conjugates and protein targets were investigated. Polypeptides were derivatized with small organic molecules, peptides and oligonucleotides. New strategies were developed with the aim to increase affinities for proteins of biological interest. 8. Zinc and human sperm chromatin
Sammanfattning : X-rny microanalysis, Sephadex® chromatography of seminal plasma and exposure of spermatozoa to sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS), were methods used to study the zinc content of sperm chromatin, the nature of the zinc binding ligands present in seminal plasma and the stability of the sperm chromatin in whole semen samples from fertile and infertile men. Split ejaculates were used to study the same variables in different fractions of the same ejaculate. LÄS MER
9. A genetic approach to the identification of new components regulating development in Arabidopsis thaliana
Sammanfattning : Two new genes involved in important processes of plant development were identified in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The genes were isolated from mutants generated through insertional mutagenesis based on a transposon tagging approach. LÄS MER
10. Structural Insight into the Bacterial Sialic Acid Catabolic Pathway
Sammanfattning : A genetically diverse community of commensal and pathogenic bacteria thrive in the digestive system and urogenital tracts of animals. Many of these bacteria forage sialic acid from mucosal cell surfaces. LÄS MER
