  1. 1. Pore pressure response in the uppermost part of a clay soil slope - Two case studies in the Gothenburg region

    Författare :Hanna Blomén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; yearly variations; simulation; precipitation; pore pressure; clay; slope stability;

    Sammanfattning : In this research project the pore pressures in the uppermost 5 to 10 meters of clayey soils in southwestern Sweden are studied. The focus is on natural, short time variations, such as yearly variations due to precipitation, frost and evaporation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations

    Författare :Cecilia Backe; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tropical and temperate regions; global transport; temperature; latitudinal fractionation; fugacity; soil organic matter; soil-air exchange; washout ratio; rain; precipitation; atmosphere; spatial and temporal variations; DDT; PCB; persistent organic pollutants; polychlorinated biphenyls; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. 3. 3. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies

    Författare :Karin Edvardsson; Björn Birgisson; Andrew Dawson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Gravel road; dust; particulate matter; PM10; horizontal dust diffusion; deteriorations; maintenance; dust control; dust suppressants; efficiency; application rate; leaching; residual concentration; seasonal variations; salt solution; solid salt; calcium chloride; magnesium chloride; lignosulphonate; polysaccharide sugar ; bitumen emulsion; rape oil; starch; surfactant; mesa; clay; fine material content;

    Sammanfattning : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality. 4. 4. Characteristics of Vertical Forest Backscatter Profiles Measured using Radar Tomography

    Författare :Patrik Bennet; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forest remote sensing; L-band; above-ground biomass; P-band; vertical reflectivity profiles; radar tomography; temporal backscatter variations;

    Sammanfattning : Forests are an integral part of the Earth’s climate system, having shaped the conditions of life throughout millions of years, but the coverage and conditions of forests are under rapid change. To monitor this change and predict the impact on climate, yearly global mapping of forest Above-Ground Biomass (AGB) is needed. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cost analysis and policy implications in psychiatric care

    Författare :Anne Tiainen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Psychiatric disorders; cost of illness; direct costs; indirect cost; production losses; regional variations; determinants; bipolar disorder; utilization; admission;

    Sammanfattning : The economic burden of mental health constitutes a substantial part of the total costs of illnesses. Most estimates of cost-of-illness focus on somatic illnesses and corresponding studies of mental health are few. LÄS MER
