1. Pore pressure response in the uppermost part of a clay soil slope - Two case studies in the Gothenburg region
Sammanfattning : In this research project the pore pressures in the uppermost 5 to 10 meters of clayey soils in southwestern Sweden are studied. The focus is on natural, short time variations, such as yearly variations due to precipitation, frost and evaporation. LÄS MER
2. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations
Sammanfattning : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. LÄS MER
3. Evaluation of Dust Suppressants for Gravel Roads : Methods Development and Efficiency Studies
Sammanfattning : Approximately 75 percent (300 000 km) of the total Swedish road network and 20 percent(20 000 km) of the national road network consists of gravel roads. One of the most significantproblems associated with gravel roads is traffic-generated dust emission, which contributes tothe deterioration of the road surface and acts as a major source of particulate matter releasedinto the atmosphere, thereby involving public economics, road safety, human health, andenvironmental quality. 4. Characteristics of Vertical Forest Backscatter Profiles Measured using Radar Tomography
Sammanfattning : Forests are an integral part of the Earth’s climate system, having shaped the conditions of life throughout millions of years, but the coverage and conditions of forests are under rapid change. To monitor this change and predict the impact on climate, yearly global mapping of forest Above-Ground Biomass (AGB) is needed. LÄS MER
5. Cost analysis and policy implications in psychiatric care
Sammanfattning : The economic burden of mental health constitutes a substantial part of the total costs of illnesses. Most estimates of cost-of-illness focus on somatic illnesses and corresponding studies of mental health are few. LÄS MER
