  1. 1. Xerostomia : Views among health care professionals and the main concern among afflicted adults

    Författare :Solgun Folke; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the two studies were to survey and describe views of xerostomia among health care professionals and to explore, among afflicted adults; the main concerns associated with xerostomia and attempted remedies. Two empirical studies with qualitative design were conducted. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Radiation-Induced Xerostomia in Chinese Patients with Head and Neck Cancer – An Explorative and Interventional study

    Författare :Nan Jiang; Jan Mårtensson; Yue Zhao; Malin Stensson; Maria Larsson; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; Xerostomia; Integrated supportive program;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Radiation-induced xerostomia is a common oral complication of patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) undergoing radiotherapy (RT). This can lead to a series of functional oral disorders, particularly dental caries, and ultimately negatively affect their oral health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of fractionated irradiation on salivary glands

    Författare :Lars Franzén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Salivary glands; irradiation; xerostomia; acinar cells; secretion; cell membrane; neuropeptides;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis is a study of the effects of radiation on the salivary glands in an experimental and a clinical study. Irradiation is a cornerstone in the management of head and neck cancer and is as other modalities of cancer treatment, afflicted with adverse reactions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Radiation Oncology Data and Modelling Side Effects after Radiation Therapy

    Författare :Caroline Olsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dose and side effect data; dose-volume response; fractionation effect; LQ model; sequential two-phase radiotherapy; head and neck cancer; parotid gland; xerostomia; pelvic radiotherapy; gynecological cancer; pubic bone; pain; data integration; xerostomia;

    Sammanfattning : Although modern radiation therapy techniques have the ability to conform the dose distribution of ionizing radiation tightly around the volume to be treated, unwanted irradiation to surrounding organs remains a problem. The probability of a side effect arising in the normal tissue of a patient after radiation therapy can be modelled by sigmoid mathematical functions known as normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models. 5. 5. Studies on acupuncture treatment of xerostomia

    Författare :Maria Blom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :xerostomia dry mouth ; acupuncture; treatment; Sjögren s syndrome; irradiation; prognostic test; pilocarpine; long-term follow-up;

    Sammanfattning : Xerostomia (dry mouth) is most often associated with Sjögren's Syndrome (SS), medication, endocrinological disorders, or irradiation treatment to the head- and neck region. There is no effective treatment of xerostomia at the present. LÄS MER
