  1. 1. Islet Xenotransplantation : An Experimental Study of Barriers to Clinical Transplantation

    Författare :Peter Schmidt; Olle Korsgren; Bo Nilsson; Karin Ulrichs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; xenotransplantation; islets of Langerhans; rejection; diabetes; porcine endogenous retroviruses; quantitative RT-PCR; cytokines; animal models; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the field of transplantation, the increasing deficit of human donors have lead to an interest in animals as an alternative source of organs and tissues. Different in vitro systems and rodent models of xenotransplantation were used to examine the most significant barriers that have to be overcome, before isolated islets of Langerhans from pigs can be used as a cure for insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus in humans. 2. 2. Islet xenotransplantation : An immunological study in the pig-to-mouse model

    Författare :Birgitta Benda; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oncology; xenotransplantation; porcine; islet; in vivo; knock-out mouse; immunohistochemistry; CsA; MDL 201; 449A; Ig; FcR; IL-6; perforin; granzyme B; macrophage; eosinophilic granulocyte; T cell; TCR; IFN- g; TNF- a; IL-2; Onkologi; Oncology; Onkologi; Clinical Immunology; klinisk immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Successful clinical xenotransplantation, i.e., transplantation between species, would eliminate the shortage of donor organs. In order to study the acute cellular rejection reaction following discordant xenogeneic transplantation, an experimental pig-to- mouse islet xenotransplantation model was established. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies of Rejection in Experimental Xenotransplantation

    Författare :Tomas Lorant; Annika Tibell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Antibodies; cell culturing; cytokines; hyaluronan; immunosuppression; mouse; rat; rejection; T lymphocytes; xenotransplantation.; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : One main hurdle to xenotransplantation, i.e. transplantation between different species, is the immunological barrier that the organ meets in the recipient. The aim of this thesis was to characterise xenogeneic rejection mechanisms by using the concordant mouse-to-rat heart transplantation model. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modulation of the Immune Response in Concordant Xenotransplantation

    Författare :Adam Bersztel; Gunnar Tufveson; Michael Olausson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Antibodies; blood transfusions; heart; pancreatic islets; tolerance; xenotransplantation; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Xenotransplantation, i.e. transplantation between different species, could be a possible solution to the present shortage of organ donors. The immunological response to a xenograft is strong and difficult to suppress. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On ischemia/reperfusion injury and rejection in concordant xenotransplantation to the rat

    Författare :Daniel Jan Lukes; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Concordant; xenotransplantation; rat; hamster; mouse; rejection; necrosis; PCr; ß-ATP; ROS; SOE light; I RP; IPC;

    Sammanfattning : Studies in concordant (without preformed antibodies) rodent xenotransplantation (transplantation between species) models have focused, to date, on immunological disparities. In allotransplantation (transplantation within species), there is evidence suggesting that early ischemic events may contribute to later rejection episodes and to the development of chronicrejection features.
