Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores the interactions between concepts of gender, nation and authorship in the work of the German writer Amalie von Helvig, née Imhoff (1776–1831). With her biography shaped by mobility, and political and cultural changes, Helvig is particularly suitable for examining the importance of gender and nationality as well as network contacts for the work and influence of women writers around 1800. Five books are at the center of attention: The children’s books De vita björnarna (“The White Bears”) (1969) and Det lilla landet (“The Little Country”) (1971), the two novels Tillflyktens hus (“The House of Refuge”) (1975) and Kvinnan som lekte med dockor (“The Woman who played with dolls”) (1977), and the cycle of poems Gattet (“The Inlet”) (1981). 4. Parents, Power, Poverty: On choice and responsibility on two parental communities
Sammanfattning : This dissertation explores discourses about parenthood and subject ideals as they manifest in two Swedish parental web communities. The aim is to examine the perceived division of responsibility between the parents themselves and the institutions of the welfare state and furthermore to map out and deconstruct tensions between demands understood to be assigned to the parent and to society, respectively. 5. Shaping the nation with song : Johann Friedrich Reichardt and the German cultural identity
Sammanfattning : The primary aim of this dissertation is to study the nationalistic worldview as it emerged in the German lands in the second half of the eighteenth century . The research focuses on how this influenced the artistic practices of Prussian composer, writer and court Kapellmeister Johann Friedrich Reichardt (1752–1814), and likewise how Reichardt’s activities influenced and formed this field.
