  1. 6. Experimental Colonic Obstruction and Anastomotic Healing

    Författare :Martin Rehn; Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstruction; anastomosis; colon; wound healing; matrix metalloproteinases; collagen; MMP inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant diseases world-wide. Most patients can be diagnosed, staged and treated by surgery in an elective setting. However, about one fifth of the patients will have an emergency presentation and in most cases due to malignant obstruction of the left colon. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Corneal cellular proliferation and wound healing

    Författare :Lisha Gan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cornea; cell proliferation; wound healing; stem-cells; leukocytes; PCNA; hyaluronan; alkali injury; photorefractive keratectomy;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cellular proliferation plays an important role in both physiological and pathological processes. Epithelial hyperplasia in the epithelium, excessive scar formation in retrocorneal membrane formation and neovascularization are examples of excessive proliferation of cornea cells. Lack of proliferative ability causes corneal degeneration. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Multifunctional roles of plasmin in inflammation : Studies of animal models on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wound healing and infection

    Författare :Jinan Li; Peter Carmeliet; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Plasmin; complement; inflammation; wound healing; infection; autoimmune disease; non-autoimmune disease; rheumatoid arthritis; multiple sclerosis; tympanic membrane; otitis media; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmin has been suggested to be involved in degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and tissue remodeling during a number of physiological and pathological processes. The aims of this thesis were to study the functional roles of plasmin during pathological inflammation in autoimmune and nonautoimmune disease models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), wound healing and infection. 4. 9. Vacuum-Assisted Closure Therapy after Cardiac Surgery. Sternal Stability, Cost of Care, Learning Curve and Hemodynamic Outcome

    Författare :Arash Mokhtari; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health economics; Vacuum-assisted closure; Sternum; Mediastinitis; Deep sternal wound infection; Cardiac surgery; Wound healing; Hemodynamics; Wound closure;

    Sammanfattning : Deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) following cardiothoracic surgery is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication with high morbidity and mortality. DSWI is associated with a significant increase in the length of hospital stay and the cost of hospitalization. The socioeconomic impact of DSWI is considerable. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy. Therapy Settings and Biological Effects in Peripheral Wounds

    Författare :Ola Borgquist; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Negative pressure wound therapy; vacuum-assisted closure; wound healing;

    Sammanfattning : Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) promotes wound healing through several mechanisms, e.g., altered periwound blood flow, mechanical deformation of the wound edge tissue, and drainage of excess fluid and debris. LÄS MER
