  1. 1. Bayesian Models for Multilingual Word Alignment

    Författare :Robert Östling; Mats Wirén; Ola Knutsson; Jörg Tiedemann; Sharon Goldwater; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; word alignment; parallel text; Bayesian models; MCMC; linguistic typology; sign language; annotation transfer; transfer learning; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I explore Bayesian models for word alignment, how they can be improved through joint annotation transfer, and how they can be extended to parallel texts in more than two languages. In addition to these general methodological developments, I apply the algorithms to problems from sign language research and linguistic typology. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Digital lines, Sturmian words, and continued fractions

    Författare :Hanna Uscka-Wehlou; Christer Oscar Kiselman; Maciej Klimek; Gunilla Borgefors; Mikael Passare; Damien Jamet; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; digital geometry; digital line; hierarchy of runs; combinatorics on words; Sturmian word; upper mechanical word; characteristic word; irrational slope; continued fraction; Gauss map; fixed point; Discrete mathematics; Diskret matematik; matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we present and solve selected problems arising from digital geometry and combinatorics on words. We consider digital straight lines and, equivalently, upper mechanical words with positive irrational slopes a... LÄS MER

  3. 3. Framing in educational practices: Learning activity, digital technology and the logic of situated action

    Författare :Annika Lantz-Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; framing; learning activities; digital technology; word problems; problem solving;

    Sammanfattning : An overarching ambition of this thesis is to study the in situ practices that emerge when technology becomes part of educational activities and, in addition, to examine what students’ definition of such activities will be. By analysing students’ concrete uses of digital technology in regular classroom practices, the study intends to demystify how digital technology codetermines activities in educational settings. 4. 4. Prosodic and Phonological Ability in Children with Developmental Language Disorder and Children with Hearing Impairment : In the Context of Word and Nonword Repetition

    Författare :Simon Sundström; Christina Samuelsson; Björn Lyxell; Chloë Marshall; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; developmental language disorder; hearing impairment; phonology; prosody; repetition;

    Sammanfattning : Many children with developmental language disorder (DLD) exhibit difficulties with phonology, i.e. the sounds of language. Children with any degree of hearing impairment (HI) are at an increased risk of problems with spoken language, including phonology. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Reactive Concurrent Data Structures and Algorithms for Synchronization

    Författare :Phuong Ha; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-blocking; reactive; multi-word atomic primitives; online algorithms; shared memory; concurrent data structures; distributed data structures; randomization; online financial problems; synchronization; spin-locks;

    Sammanfattning : Parallelism plays a significant role in high-performance computing systems, from large clusters of computers to chip-multithreading (CMT) processors. Performance of the parallel systems comes not only from concurrently runningmore processing hardware but also from utilizing the hardware efficiently. LÄS MER
