  1. 1. Improving Wood Fuel Pellets for Household Use : Perspectives on Quality, Efficiency and Environment

    Författare :Magnus Ståhl; Bengt Månsson; Johan Vinterbäck; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood fuel pellets; sawdust; drying; pellet production; recirculation; quality; efficency; environment; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Sammanfattning : Bioenergy is one of many contributors to reducing the use of fossil fuels in order to mitigate climate change by decreasing CO2-emissions, and the potential for biofuels are large. The wood fuel pellets are a refined biofuel made of sawdust, which is dried and compressed to achieve improved fuel and transportation properties. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Measurement of Self-Heating of Biomass Pellets using Isothermal Calorimetry

    Författare :Ida Larsson; Karin Granström; Anders Lönnermark; Per Blomqvist; Patrick van Hees; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; isothermal calorimetry; biomass pellets; wood pellets; self-heating; reactivity; screening test; isoterm kalorimetri; pellets; biomassa; självuppvärmning; reaktivitet; screeningtest; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Sammanfattning : Self-heating in storage facilities of biomass pellet can lead to spontaneous combustion. This has resulted in many fires over the years, causing both financial and environmental losses.In order to assess the risk for spontaneous combustion of biomass pellets during storage, it is important to know how prone the fuel is to self-heating, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Wood Fuel Pellets: Sawdust Drying in the Energy System

    Författare :Magnus Ståhl; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood fuel pellets; sawdust; drying; pellet production; recirculation; VOC; system integration; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Sammanfattning : In 2004, the amount of wood fuel pellets used in Sweden was 1 256 000 tons, it was mostly used in large scale burning for district heating. Over the last 10 years, a significant increase in pellet production has occurred and today the preferred raw materials for pellet production, i.e., dry sawdust and wood shavings, are insufficient. 4. 4. Dioxin emissions from small-scale combustion of bio-fuel and household waste

    Författare :Björn Hedman; Stellan Marklund; Calle Nilsson; Brian Gullett; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Source-sorted waste; Household waste; Textile; Biofuel; Firewood; Pellets; Combustion; Wood boiler; Pellet boiler; Backyard burning; Garden waste; PCDD F; dioxin; PCB; Emission factor; Källsorterat avfall; Hushållsavfall; Textil; Biobränsle; Ved; Pellets; Förbränning; Vedpanna; Pelletpanna; Trädgårdsavfall; PCDD F; dioxin; PCB; Emissionsfaktor; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : Denna avhandling behandlar rökgasutsläpp av persistenta organiska föroreningar, framförallt dioxiner, vid förbränning av fasta biobränslen och torrt hushållsavfall i relativt små anläggningar (5-600 kW) utan avancerad rökgasreningsteknik.Samförbränning av avfall och biobränsle i effektiva mindre biobränslepannor testades som en alternativ strategi till den vanligen förekommande storskaliga hanteringen och förbränningen fast hushållsavfall. 5. 5. Emissions from realistic operation of residential wood pellets heating systems

    Författare :Kaung Myat Win; Rebei Bel Fdhila; Tomas Persson; Erik Dahlquist; Henrik Thunman; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood pellet; Heating; Combustion; boiler; stove; emissions; particulate matter; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik; SWX-Energi; Integrerade system för sol och biobränsle;

    Sammanfattning : Emissions from residential combustion appliances vary significantly depending on the firing behaviours and combustion conditions, in addition to combustion technologies and fuel quality. Although wood pellet combustion in residential heating boilers is efficient, the combustion conditions during start-up and stop phases are not optimal and produce significantly high emissions such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon from incomplete combustion.
