21. Vocally disruptive behaviour in severely demented patients in relation to institutional care provided
Sammanfattning : Thirty-seven patients identified as vocally disruptive and a control group, selected from 264 patients at psychogeriatric wards were studied. Tape-recordings of their vocal behaviour, ratings of their functional performance and symptoms related to dementia, observations of their behaviour, activities and interaction with caregivers were performed. 22. Impact of Pain and Evaluation of Education and Self-Care in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer
Sammanfattning : It is not unusual for patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) to suffer from both tumor and treatment-related pain that is difficult to alleviate despite individualized pharmacological treatment. The presence of concomitant various dimensions of pain in patients during the often difficult period following radiotherapy (RT) has not been elucidated. 23. The diagnostic challenge of Parkinsonian syndromes. Clinical and laboratory evaluation
Sammanfattning : Background: The differentiation between Parkinson's disease (PD), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) may be difficult, but it is important for prognostic and therapeutic purposes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the differential diagnostic capacity of laboratory tests in a population of patients fulfilling strict clinical criteria for these disorders. LÄS MER
24. The analgesic mechanisms of buprenorphine
Sammanfattning : Buprenorphine, a derivative of thebaine, is a semi-synthetic opiate and a partial p-opioid receptor agonist. Buprenorphine is also a weak kappa-opioid receptor antagonist. Buprenorphine is used clinically as an analgesic and for maintenance therapy of opiate-dependent subjects because it produces limited withdrawal symptoms. LÄS MER
25. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties
Sammanfattning : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds.
