1. Nesting and migration in the introduced Canada goose in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to document patterns in breeding and migration in Swedish Canada geese Branta canadensis, to explain these against the genetic and historical background of the population, and to test predictions of hypotheses pertaining to parental investment. The Canada goose population in Sweden was founded by the introduction of a few individuals in the 1930's. 2. Genomic analyses of migratory divides in the willow warbler
Sammanfattning : In many species of birds juveniles migrate independently of experienced adults and thus have to rely on innate information about migratory routes and wintering area. This information is encoded as a set of inherited migratory directions and a timing schedule that provides information on when and how far to migrate. LÄS MER
3. Genetic Variation and Migration of Waders
Sammanfattning : The migratory behaviour of birds has received much scientific interest, though many questions still remain unsolved. One of the reasons for this is the difficulty of following the birds as they move between breeding and wintering localities. Populations may mix on migration and the origin of individual birds is difficult to assess. LÄS MER
4. Magnetic map sense in animals: effects of geographic and magnetic displacements
Sammanfattning : Migration research is a large and diverse field and in my thesis I have focused on the impact of geomagnetic cues on animal orientation, navigation and migratory fuelling. Several animal species from widely different taxa possess the ability to sense and make use of geomagnetic information during migratory or homing events. LÄS MER
5. Searcing for economically sustainable Swedish suckle cow based beef production systems after decoupling of EU-income support
Sammanfattning : After decoupling of European Union income support, the current Swedish systems for suckle cow-based beef production will be unable to pay the costs of new investments and the market wage for labour. In a Delphi study, production systems able to achieve full cost coverage were identified as being "Organic with high environmental grants and a premium price for beef" and "Conventional with outdoor wintering of cows".
