21. Life history evolution during a climate-driven butterfly range expansion
Sammanfattning : Climate change pushes species polewards and upwards – as temperatures rise, species move to areas that were previously too cold for them. During range expansions, species encounter unfamiliar environmental conditions, which may require evolutionary adaptation, but expanding populations may often be hampered by their genetic and demographic properties. 22. Reproduction and survival in the lesser spotted woodpecker. Effects of life history, mating system and age
Sammanfattning : Over 9 years, 116 breeding attempts made by individually marked lesser spotted woodpeckers (Dendrocopos minor) were followed in a study area in southern Sweden. The home-range area decreased from on average 742 ha in winter to a defended territory of 103 ha prior to breeding and 43 ha during nesting. LÄS MER
23. Population dynamics of small mammals in relation to habitat factors in natural and managed forests
Sammanfattning : The influence of forest age and structural habitat factors on species richness and the population dynamics of small mammals were evaluated. Small mammals were monitored both in old-growth and in immature managed forests, and habitat factors were recorded. LÄS MER
24. Contested Landscapes : social-ecological interactions between forestry and reindeer husbandry
Sammanfattning : Throughout northern Fennoscandia, reindeer husbandry is a central part in the cultural heritage of the Sámi people. In its history, Sámi culture and reindeer husbandry have undergone significant adaptations to environmental, social and political challenges. LÄS MER
25. Cycles of voles, predators, and alternative prey in boreal Sweden
Sammanfattning : Bank voles, grey-sided voles, and field voles had synchronous 3-4 year density cycles with variable amplitudes which averaged about 200-fold in each species. Cycles of vole predators (red fox and Tengmalm's owl), and their (foxes') alternative prey (mountain hare and forest grouse) lagged behind the vole cycles. LÄS MER
