  1. 11. Effect of virulence factors on survival strategies of vibrio cholerae and vibrio mimicus

    Författare :Soni Priya Valeru; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Vibrio cholerae;

    Sammanfattning : Vibrio is a genus of gram-negative bacteria comprising nearly 70 species and they are clinically human pathogens that can cause many infections. This study is mainly based on two species such as Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor, which cause cholera disease and Vibrio mimicus, that cause gastroenteritis, open wounds infection, and septicemia. 2. 12. Plasmin : a potent pro-inflammatory factor

    Författare :Yongzhi Guo; Tor Ny; Dick Heinegård; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; plasmin; inflammation; rheumatoid arthritis; bacterial arthritis; infection; sepsis; cytokine; signal transduction; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmin, the central molecule of the plasminogen activator system, is a broad-spectrum serine protease. Plasmin is important for the degradation of fibrin and other components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) during a number of physiological and pathological processes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Probing the Alpha Class Glutathione Transferase Structure. Combinatorial Subunit Studies and Rational Redesign

    Författare :Ann Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Glutathione transferases; rational redesign; enzyme; catalysis; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Molecular Biotechnology; molekylär bioteknik avd f jonfysik ;

    Sammanfattning : The present work concerns two Alpha class enzymes, GST A1-1 and GST A4-4, of the glutathione transferase (GST) family, which are detoxication enzymes catalyzing the conjugation of the tripeptide glutathione with various electrophiles. The GST A1-1 structure was explored for protein engineering purposes and tailored for increased activity toward alkenals. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Transthyretin from a structural perspective

    Författare :Andreas Hörnberg; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Hugo Monaco; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; X-ray crystallography; amyloidosis; structural comparison; anomalous diffraction; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Conformational changes in human proteins can induce several types of diseases. The nature of the conformational changes is largely unknown, but some lead to amyloid fibril formation. Amyloid fibrils accumulate in the extra-cellular space of tissues resulting in disruption of organ function. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The MEN 1 Pancreas : Tumor Development and Haploinsufficiency

    Författare :Margareta Halin Lejonklou; Britt Skogseid; Peter Stålberg; Andreea Barbu; Gerard Doherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEN 1; PNET; tumor development; haploinsufficiency; survivin; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type I Syndrome (MEN 1) is a monogenic autosomal dominantly inherited cancer syndrome caused by a heterozygous loss of the MEN1 gene, predisposing for endocrine cell proliferation and tumor formation. MEN 1 carriers classically develop tumors in endocrine organs; the parathyroids, the endocrine pancreas, and the pituitary. LÄS MER
