16. Structure and function studies of GH45 glycoside hydrolases
Sammanfattning : The enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic material in nature is carried out by a plethora of cellulases. Glycoside hydrolase family 45 (GH45) enzymes are small cellulases most commonly found in fungi that catalyse the hydrolysis of β(1→4) linked glucans. LÄS MER
17. Trametes versicolor as biodegrader and biocatalyst when using lignocellulose for ethanol production
Sammanfattning : Energy consumption has increased rapidly during the last century due to population growth and greater industrialization. Lignocellulosic-based biofuels are being developed as alternatives to fossil fuels. For many years the question of how 5-carbon sugars in biomass are utilized in nature has been a vexed one. LÄS MER
18. In vitro and in vivo oxidation of diastereomers of lignin models of arylgylcerol b-aryl ether type and heterologous expression of laccase
Sammanfattning : Enzymic and non-enzymic oxidation of lignin models of the arylglycerol β-aryl ether type was investigated in experiments aimed at providing a better understanding of the initial phase of biological lignin degradation. Product profiles and diasteromer selectivity were determined to gain knowledge of the properties of the oxidants and pave the way for evaluation of the presence of the oxidants in ligninolytic fungal cultures. 19. Perturbance and Stimulation : using Nitrogen Addition and High-Throughput Sequencing to Study Fungal Communities in Boreal Forests
Sammanfattning : Fungal communities are major players in globally important nutrient cycling processes, and form symbioses with most terrestrial plants. In the nitrogen (N) limited Swedish boreal forest, ectomycorrhizal (EcM) fungi colonize most roots of the economically important and stand dominating conifer species, Norway spruce (Picea abies) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), with significant implications for tree nutrition and decomposition processes. 20. Mechanical properties of sound and of deteriorated softwood at different length scales : Poromicromechanical modeling and experimental investigations
Sammanfattning : Due to its natural origin and its inherent heterogeneities, mechanical properties of wood are highly anisotropic and show a broad variability, not only between different wood species, but also within a tree. Similar to other biological materials, the wood mi- crostructure is well organized and hierarchically structured from the annual rings visible to the naked eye down to the wood polymers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin at the nanometer-scale.
