11. Whole grain cereal products and baseline gut microbiota composition in metabolic and appetite regulation in healthy humans - Emphasizing rye and barley
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is increasing continuously worldwide. These metabolic diseases are associated with many health issues, including increased risk of depression and cognitive impairment. Whole grain (WG) has shown potential to prevent obesity, T2D and CVD. 12. Genetic diversity and grain protein composition of tetraploid wheat (Triticum durum Desf) germplasm from Ethiopia
Sammanfattning : The extent and patterns of genetic diversity in landraces of tetraploid wheat germplasm collected from major wheat-producing regions of Ethiopia were assessed with the use of agromorphological,phenol-qualitative traits, grain proteins and molecular markers. The extent of genetic erosion of landraces in tetraploid wheat germplasm from Ethiopia was also evaluated. LÄS MER
13. Quality of organically produced wheat from diverse origin
Sammanfattning : The health benefits of organically grown whole grain wheat are derived from various nutritional compounds such as dietary fibre, minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals, while baking quality is influenced by the protein content and composition. Genetic improvement and production of wheat to increase the amounts of the nutritional compounds therefore enhance the health benefits. LÄS MER
14. Governing grain protein concentration and composition in wheat and barley : use of genetic and environmental factors
Sammanfattning : For commercial production of wheat and barley, grain yield (GY), grain protein concentration (GPC) and protein composition are considered important. Genetic (G) and environmental (E) factors are important constraints affecting GPC and protein composition in wheat and barley. LÄS MER
15. Associations among early-season root and shoot traits, nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat
Sammanfattning : Nutrient-efficient and high-yielding spring wheat is needed in high-latitude regions. The aims of this thesis were: (1) to evaluate the effects of soil compaction and differential weather conditions on plant growth and grain yield, (2) to identify critical nutrient elements limiting plant growth and grain yield, and (3) to identify root and shoot traits at an early growth stage (early vigor) influencing nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat.
