16. Studies of Spotted Fever Rickettsia - Distribution, Detection, Diagnosis and Clinical Context : With a Focus on Vectors and Patients in Sweden
Sammanfattning : The spotted fever rickettsia, Rickettsia helvetica, is an endemic tick-borne bacteria in Sweden. It causes infections in humans, manifested as aneruptive fever, headache, arthralgia and myalgia, and sometimes an inoculation eschar or a rash. There have also been two known cases of human infections with R. felis in Sweden. LÄS MER
17. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation
Sammanfattning : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes. 18. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology
Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER
19. Molecular pharmacology of amiodarone
Sammanfattning : Amiodarone (Am) is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug. Its use is limited due to serious side effects and it was therefore used only when other therapeutic interventions proved to be ineffective. LÄS MER
20. Effects of ethanol on NMDA receptor-mediated functions in primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells
Sammanfattning : Primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells were used to investigate the effects of acute and chronic exposure of ethanol on NMDA receptor functions and to examine the possible sites of interaction between ethanol and the NMDA receptor. Activation of NMDA receptors induced elevation of free cytoplasmic Ca2+, Ca2+ influx, activation of protein kinase C and neurotoxicity. LÄS MER
