  1. 16. Studies of Spotted Fever Rickettsia - Distribution, Detection, Diagnosis and Clinical Context : With a Focus on Vectors and Patients in Sweden

    Författare :Katarina Wallménius; Kenneth Nilsson; Thomas Jaenson; Björn Olsen; Fredrik Elgh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tick-borne infections; co-infections; ticks; Ixodes ricinus; zoonosis; Rickettsia helvetica; migrating birds; Bell’s pares; erythema migrans; Rickettsia aeschlimannii; sudden deafness; facial nerve paralysis; Hyalomma marginatum; Rickettsia africae; western blot; PCR; serology; Clinical Bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi;

    Sammanfattning : The spotted fever rickettsia, Rickettsia helvetica, is an endemic tick-borne bacteria in Sweden. It causes infections in humans, manifested as aneruptive fever, headache, arthralgia and myalgia, and sometimes an inoculation eschar or a rash. There have also been two known cases of human infections with R. felis in Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation

    Författare :Lingwei Wang; Sektion II; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Western blotting; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; vascular remodeling; systemic lupus erythematosus; smooth muscle cell; shear stress; real-time PCR; platelets; P2 receptor; gene expression; erythrocyte; ATP release; endothelium;

    Sammanfattning : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes. 3. 18. Thyroid hormone receptor expression in cardiovascular disease and pharmacology

    Författare :Shiva Shahrara; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :TR mRNA; amiodarone; propranolol; heart rate; Quantitative RT-PCR; Western blot; Northern blot; mRNA and protein distribution; chronic valvular disease; Mated cardiomyopathy; AT- I cardiomyocytes; mouse myocardium;

    Sammanfattning : The heart is a major target organ for thyroid hormone actions. Thyroid hormone exerts effects on the myocardium, which are mediated by specific nuclear receptors. The thyroid hormone receptors (TR) are members of the steroid hormone receptor superfamily. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Molecular pharmacology of amiodarone

    Författare :Viktor Drvota; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Amiodarone; thyroid hormone receptors; B-adrenergic receptors; AT-1 cardiomyocytes; Western blot; solution hybridization; Fura-2; Langendorff heart; mouse; guinea pig;

    Sammanfattning : Amiodarone (Am) is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug. Its use is limited due to serious side effects and it was therefore used only when other therapeutic interventions proved to be ineffective. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Effects of ethanol on NMDA receptor-mediated functions in primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells

    Författare :Aleta Cebere; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Glutamate; NR2A and NR2B subunits; NMDA ethanol; homoquinolinic acid; glycine; spermidine; NMDA receptor antagonists; Ca 21; neurotoxicity; neuroprotection; AP-1; RT-PCR; Western blot; cerebellar granule cells;

    Sammanfattning : Primary cultures of cerebellar granule cells were used to investigate the effects of acute and chronic exposure of ethanol on NMDA receptor functions and to examine the possible sites of interaction between ethanol and the NMDA receptor. Activation of NMDA receptors induced elevation of free cytoplasmic Ca2+, Ca2+ influx, activation of protein kinase C and neurotoxicity. LÄS MER
