16. Novel aspects of neuroblastoma : to hypoxia and beyond
Sammanfattning : Neuroblastoma (NB) is a pediatric cancer arising from the neural crest cells forming the sympathetic nervous system. Just as other types of pediatric cancer the driving mutations of neuroblastoma are few and the tumors are instead categorized according to genetic abbreviations such as amplification, loss of heterozygosity, gains and translocations. 17. Pulsatile insulin release from single islets of Langerhans
Sammanfattning : Insulin release from single islets of Langerhans is pulsatile. The secretory activities of the islets in the pancreas are coordinated resulting in plasma insulin oscillations. Nutrients amplitude-regulate the insulin pulses without influencing their frequency. LÄS MER

19. On the roles of genes in Parkinson's disease
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder which affects 1% of the population over the age of 60. In order to identify candidate genes with a potential role in Parkinson’s disease pathology, we investigated genes which are involved in protein aggregation and the ubiquitin‐proteasome system (α‐synuclein and ubiquitin carboxy‐terminal hydrolase L1, UCH‐L1), oxidative stress (DJ‐1), mitochondrial function (mitochondrial transcription factor A, TFAM), regulation of drug/toxin levels (multi‐drug resistance 1, MDR1 and alcohol and aldehyde dehydrogenases, ADH and ALDHs), as well as a gene with unknown function, but highly implicated in Parkinson’s disease genetics (leucine‐rich repeat kinase 2, LRRK2). 20. Applied Speech Enhancement for Personal Communication
Sammanfattning : In our daily life noise is almost constantly present. At the same time our need to communicate reliably has probably never been this great. Surrounding noise impairs our ability to communicate by speech and causes the users of a speech communication system to strain both their hearing and their voices. LÄS MER
