1. Spring water stress in Scots pine: interaction of snow and soil temperature
Sammanfattning : Water use and net carbon assimilation during spring was examined on Scots pine trees exposed to different soil warming dynamics in the field. Sap flow, needle water potential and net carbon assimilation were measured on trees that were exposed to a wide range of soil temperature regimes caused by manipulating the snow cover on tree-scale soil plots. 2. On the low primary water stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of weld deformed Alloy 690
Sammanfattning : It has been shown in recent years that the nickel-base Alloy 690 can become susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the primary water of nuclear power plants with pressurized water reactors if it has been sufficiently deformed at room temperature. Although the material is not intentionally used in a deformed state, it can become deformed by various manufacturing processes. LÄS MER
3. Diversified agroecosystems for biodiversity and ecosystem services : Ecological intensification of faba bean cropping under land use and climate change
Sammanfattning : Loss of natural habitats and lack of continuous floral resources in intensive agricultural landscapes limit the population growth of ecosystem service providers, such as pollinators. Weakened ecosystem service delivery and climate change stressors contribute to crop yield instability. LÄS MER
4. Leaf- to field-level compound effects of warm and dry conditions on crops and potential mitigating strategies
Sammanfattning : Ongoing climate change has been threatening global food security. Under climate change, increasing risk of hot and dry conditions (termed compound events) is projected in many agricultural regions. Compound events cause detrimental effects on crops, yet their effects have rarely been quantified based on modeling approach. LÄS MER
5. Modelling Transpiration and Growth of Salinity and Drought Stressed Tomatoes
Sammanfattning : Irrigation with saline waters is an agricultural practicethat is becoming increasingly common as competition for freshwater increases. In this thesis the mechanisms behind salinityand drought stress has been studied using data from fieldexperiments in combination with a modelling tool, theCoupModel. LÄS MER
