  1. 11. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi

    Författare :Akram Zamani; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chitosan; cell wall; chitin; polyphosphates; dilute sulfuric acid; zygomycetes fungi;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 2. 12. Polymer Gels and their Interactions with Ionic Surfactants

    Författare :Olof Rosén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Polymer-Surfactant Interactions; Modified Polymers; Binding Isotherm; Polymer Gels; Swelling Isotherm; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The response on chemically crosslinked gels and polymer solutions on the addition of ionic surfactants and/or addition of salt at different temperatures have been studied. All polymers studied are water soluble and slightly hydrophobic or hydrophobically modified. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Carbohydrate-specific, boronate-containing copolymers: from sugar-sensing to cell adhesion

    Författare :Marina Kuzimenkova; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; surface grafting; chemisorption; boronic acid; carbohydrates; affinity; chromatography; smart polymers; biomimetics; hydrogels; molecular recognition; diffusion; sugar-sensing; cell adhesion;

    Sammanfattning : Carbohydrates play a major role in many cell recognition events and metabolic pathways of living organisms. Synthetic carbohydrate receptors are of great interest for the chemical design of sugar sensors, materials for cell separation, cell immobilization, drug delivery and other biomedical/biotechnological applications. 4. 14. Characterisation of Aqueous Solutions, Liquid Crystals and Solid State of Non-ionic Polymers in Association with Amphiphiles and Drugs

    Författare :Annika Ridell; Martin Malmsten; Sven Engström; David Attwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polymer; surfactant; phase diagram; x-ray diffraction; fluorescence spectroscopy; calorimetry; PEG; cellulose ether; viscometry; cubic phase; liquid crystals; drugs; solid dispersion; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Cellulose ethers and polyethylene glycols are used in drug formulations as water swelling or water soluble matrices. Polar lipids, for example monoglycerides, and surfactants can be used to solubilise hydrophobic or amphiphilic drugs and to formulate potential drug delivery vehicles such as emulsions, liposomes and cubic phases. Sammanfattning : Porous networks are found in a wide range of different advanced and technologically important materials and influence the materials properties. The networks are active components in for example batteries, food and pharmaceuticals. The interconnectivity of a network strongly influences the transport properties. LÄS MER
