  1. 11. Basin-scale change in water availability and water quality under intensified irrigated agriculture

    Författare :Rebecka Törnqvist; Jerker Jarsjö; Marcel van der Perk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Irrigation; Hydrology; Land-use change; Basin-scale; Central Asia; Aral Sea; Semi-arid; Return flow; Water saving; Health risk; Water quality; Surface water; Groundwater; Nitrogen; Attenuation; Recirculation; Climate change; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Changes in land use and water use can greatly impact the cycling of water and water-borne substances. Increased redistribution of river water to irrigated fields can cause enhanced evapotranspiration and decreased river discharge. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Global and continental perspectives on the sustainability of future agricultural water management

    Författare :Luigi Piemontese; Fernando Jaramillo; Luigia Brandimarte; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water; sustainable water management; agriculture; water harvesting; climate change; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Ensuring water and food security in the Anthropocene requires an understanding of combined climate change patterns and land and water management options from local to global scale. In many regions, irrigation from river and groundwater sources is being used at unsustainable rates and climate change will further threaten those water sources. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Decision Support Model for a Sustainable Regional Water Supply

    Författare :Karin Sjöstrand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multi-criteria decision analysis; inter-municipal cooperation; drinking water supply; cost-benefit analysis; decision support; regionalization; sustainability; economic valuation;

    Sammanfattning : Water supply provision has traditionally been a municipal responsibility. However, environmental, social and economic drivers are now making it more attractive to manage the water services in a more aggregated way. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Land-Sea Interactions in the Coastal-Marine System of the Baltic Sea under Hydro-Climatic Variability

    Författare :Yuanying Chen; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Carmen Prieto; Marco Marani; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Baltic Sea; nutrient loads; hydro-climatic variability; hydrodynamics; solute transport; water quality.; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates a few important component processes for understanding and quantifying eutrophication in the Baltic Sea, that include characterization of nutrient loadings from land, water flow in the sea under changing climate conditions and transport of solutes originating from different locations along the coast. Furthermore, this study aims to improve our understanding on how processes from land (the nutrient loading conditions) and the sea (transport dynamics and water quality) couple to determine the fate of nutrients in the sea and the water quality in a selected localized coastal area, the Himmerfjärden Bay. 5. 15. Multi-Scale Surface Water-Groundwater Interaction : Implications for GroundwaterDischarge Patterns

    Författare :Babak Brian Mojarrad; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Jan Fleckenstein; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; groundwater flow; hyporheic zone; multi-scale modeling; spectral analysis; fragmentation of discharge zones; characteristic parameters; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Rivers and aquifers are continuously exchanging water, driven by processes that occur on various temporal and spatial scales, ranging from small streambed features to large geological structures. The interaction between these two components occurs in permeable sediments below the stream channel, called the hyporheic zone. LÄS MER
