  1. 1. Neonatal water and heat exchange : The influence of environmental factors and infant maturity

    Författare :Gunnar Sjörs; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Neonatal; transepidermal water loss; respiratory water loss; radiant heat; heat exchange; water loss; incubators; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The environment provided by commonly used infant incubators, the effect of radiantheat and exposure to cold air on the exchange of water and heat between newborninfants and their environment, and the water loss through the skin of infants born at24-25 weeks of gestation were investigated. The evaporation of water from the skinwas measured by the gradient method. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Skin hydration - How water and osmolytes influence biophysical properties of stratum corneum

    Författare :Sebastian Björklund; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stratum corneum; diffusive transport; permeability; flow-through cell; Franz cell; transdermal drug delivery; water activity; vapor pressure; osmotic gradient; relative humidity; ceramide; free fatty acid; cholesterol; keratin filaments; natural moisturizing factor NMF ; urea; glycerol; molecular mobility; 13C natural-abundance solid-state NMR; polarization transfer; isothermal calorimetry; impedance spectroscopy; X-ray diffraction;

    Sammanfattning : The outermost layer of skin (i.e., the stratum corneum, SC) is the interface that separates the water-rich inside of the body from the relatively dry external environment. SC forms an effective permeability barrier, which has to be overcome in transdermal drug delivery. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Electropermutation assisted by ion-exchange textile : removal of nitrate from drinking water

    Författare :Carl-Ola Danielsson; Anders Dahlkild; Mårten Behm; Anna Velin; Gerald Pourcelly; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ion-exchange textile; Ion-exchange membrane; Electropermutation; Electroextraction; Electrodialysis; Electrodeionisation; Modeling; Conducting spacer; Nitrate removal; Water treatment; Water dissociation; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Increased levels of nitrate in ground water have made many wells unsuitable as sources for drinking water. In this thesis an ion-exchang eassisted electromembrane process, suitable for nitrate removal, is investigated both theoretically and experimentally. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Författare :Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 5. 5. Condensation irrigation : a combined system for desalination and irrigation

    Författare :Jenny Lindblom; M. Thameur Chaibi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Condensation Irrigation (CI) is a new irrigation method that combines desalination and subsurface irrigation by making use of saline water for supplying clean irrigation. In this system, solar stills are used for evaporating non-potable water, and the formed vapour heats and humidifies the ambient air above the water surface. LÄS MER
