11. Molecular-Level Investigations of Water-Organic Systems of Atmospheric Relevance
Sammanfattning : It is known that aerosol particles may have warming and/or cooling effects on the climate and negative health effects that depend on their chemical and physical properties. However, current understanding of atmospheric particles’ effects is poor due to the diversity of their constituents and associated variations in properties. LÄS MER
12. Contaminated organic sediments of anthropogenic origin: impact on coastal environments
Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is negatively affected by legacy pollutants such as metals and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that are known to have adverse effects on living organisms, including, humans and were banned decades ago. This thesis addresses the dispersal of these pollutants from heavily contaminated, cellulose-rich sediments of industrial origin in the Ångermanälven river estuary in northern Sweden. LÄS MER
13. Selective extraction systems for detection and purification of membrane proteins
Sammanfattning : Increased understanding of membrane proteins is important for characterization of biochemical processes. Improved membrane protein isolation methods is a key issue for effective functional and structural determination of the large amount of unknown membrane proteins. LÄS MER
14. Development of a Solvent Extraction Process for Group Actinide Recovery from Used Nuclear Fuel
Sammanfattning : When uranium is used as fuel in nuclear reactors it both undergoes neutron induced fission as well as neutron capture. Through successive neutron capture and beta decay transuranic elements such as neptunium, plutonium, americium and curium are produced in substantial amounts. LÄS MER
15. Nanosized Bilayer Disks as Model Membranes for Interaction Studies
Sammanfattning : PEG-lipid stabilized bilayer disks have been found in lipid mixtures containing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-lipids where the combination of a high bending rigidity and low PEG-lipid/lipid miscibility favours disk formation. The disks are planar and circular in shape and their long-term stability is excellent. LÄS MER
