  1. 1. Tracking changes in dissolved natural organic matter composition : evaluating drinking water production using optical and molecular level tools

    Författare :Elin Lavonen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decades, the abundance of dissolved organic matter (DOM), a complex heterogeneous mixture of organic compounds, has increased in many surface waters in Northern Europe and North America. Surface waters are widely used as raw water sources for drinking water production. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Forest water governance : challenges in cross-sectoral and multi-level collaboration

    Författare :Irina Mancheva; Katarina Eckerberg; Anna Zachrisson; Susan Baker; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Forest water; Governance; Cross-sectoral governance; Multi-level governance; Governance mode; Collaborative governance; Natural resource management; Environmental policy; Water Framework Directive;

    Sammanfattning : Forests and water are highly interconnected with forestry practices negatively affecting forest water. In the last five decades, the Swedish state has enacted multiple policy changes and allocated significant resources towards the implementation of soft policy instruments to alleviate the effects on forest water. 3. 3. Core Level Spectroscopy of Water and Ice

    Författare :Dennis Nordlund; Anders Nilsson; Martin Wolf; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; x-ray adsorption spectroscopy; photoemission spectroscopy; x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; platinum; x-ray emission spectroscopy; density functional theory; hydrogen-bonded; H-bond; water; ice; electronic structure; excited state dynamics; proton dynamics; water adsorption; liquid water; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : A core level spectroscopy study of ice and water is presented in this thesis. Combining a number of experiments and spectrum calculations based on density functional theory, changes in the local valence electronic structure are shown to be sensitive to the local H-bonding configurations. 4. 4. The Water Taboo : Restraining the Weaponisation of Water in International Conflict

    Författare :Charlotte Grech-Madin; Ashok Swain; Anders Themnér; Gil Merom; Aaron Wolf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Water weaponisation; water taboo; international armed conflict; international relations; norms; international law; environmental security; Kargil War; Gulf War; India; United States; Peace and Conflict Research; Freds- och konfliktforskning; Statskunskap; Political Science;

    Sammanfattning : Why do nation states in conflict with one another refrain from weaponising water? Water has long been a standard weapon of armed conflict. In the post-World War II period, however, nation states in international conflict have made concerted efforts to restrain its weaponisation. 5. 5. Water-Metal Surfaces : Insights from core-level spectroscopy and density functional theory

    Författare :Theanne Schiros; Anders Nilsson; John Hemminger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :water; hydroxyl; metal; surfaces; x-ray spectroscopy; density functional theory; bonding; fuel cell; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Computational methods are combined with synchrotron-based techniques to analyze the structure and bonding of water and water plus hydroxyl at metal surfaces under UHV and at near-ambient conditions. Water-metal interaction plays a crucial role in a multitude of cosmic, atmospheric and biological phenomena as well as heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry and corrosion. LÄS MER
