11. Response of Bolivian Altiplano Lakes to Seasonal and Annual Climate Variations
Sammanfattning : The Bolivian Altiplano is situated between two mountain ranges, the western and eastern central Andes in South America. It has two major lakes, Lake Titicaca to the north, and Lake Poopó to the south, which both are important for the nature as well as for the living conditions on the Altiplano. The two lakes are the remnants of large paleolakes. LÄS MER
12. Heat and water flows in freezing and thawing soils : numerical modelling, laboratory and field observations
Sammanfattning : A laboratory study of infiltration rates into frozen and unfrozen fine sand, including temperature effects of both soil and infiltration water, is reported. The average infiltration rate varied from about 10.6 mm/min for unfrozen conditions, to about 1-2 mm/min for frozen conditions. LÄS MER
13. Subsurface dams in water resource management : methods for assessment and location
Sammanfattning : Natural groundwater storage can be improved by constructing a subsurface barrier that is a subsurface dam, in order to capture the subsurface flows and raise the groundwater levels (GWLs) in the sediment layers. Subsurface dams are preferable to surface dams because of lower evaporation, higher functionality, lower cost of construction, lessened risk for contamination and the possibility of utilizing land over the dam. 15. Global-Scale Modelling of the Land-Surface Water Balance : Development and Analysis of WASMOD-M
Sammanfattning : Water is essential for all life on earth. Global population increase and climate change are projected to increase the water stress, which already today is very high in many areas of the world. The differences between the largest and smallest global runoff estimates exceed the highest continental runoff estimates. LÄS MER
