  1. 1. Experiments and modelling of fracture initiation at impact

    Författare :Ola Wall; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration and acoustic engineering; vacuum technology; hydraulics; Viscoplasticity; Mechanical engineering; Ductile; Brittle; Dynamic; Fracture; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis addresses different questions, each necessary in the understanding of dynamic fracture initiation and crack propagation in steel. Emphasis lays on dynamic crack propagation experiments performed in the ductile to brittle transition region and possible conclusions, that can be drawn from them. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Model for Simulation of Fiber Suspension Flows

    Författare :David Hammarström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :rheology; fiber; suspension; CFD; model; wall; slip; turbulence;

    Sammanfattning : The fiber suspensions in the production line from wood topaper are subjected to many types of chemical and mechanicalprocesses, in which the flow of the suspension is of vitalimportance. The flow of the suspension determines the degree ofuniformity of the fibers through the processing, which inreturn affects the properties of the fiber suspension. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pressure-driven flows in thin and porous domains

    Författare :Elena Haller; Peter Wall; John Fabricius; Johan Byström; Eduard Marušic-Paloka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Mathematics; Tillämpad matematik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is devoted to the derivation of Darcy's law for incompressible viscous fluid flows in perforated and thin domains by means of homogenization techniques.  The problem of describing asymptotic flows in porous/thin domains occurs in the study of various physical phenomena such as filtration in sandy soils, blood circulation in capillaries, lubrication and heationg/cooling processes. 4. 4. On pressure-driven Hele-Shaw flow

    Författare :Salvador Manjate; Peter Wall; John Fabricius; Johan Byström; Niklas Lundström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Mathematics; Tillämpad matematik;

    Sammanfattning : The present licentiate thesis is devoted to the rigorous derivation of the equations governing thin-film flow of incompressible Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. More precisely, we consider flow in a generalized Hele-Shaw cell, which is a thin three-dimensional domain confined between two surfaces connected by cylindrical obstacles of various shapes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Rock grouting design: Rheological aspects and radial flow visualizations with ultrasound

    Författare :John Shamu; Stefan Larsson; Ulf Håkansson; Liangchao Zou; Chadi El Mohtar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cement grouts; grouting; yield stress fluid YSF ; thixotropy; critical shear rate; radial flow; wall slip; Bingham model; Cementbaserade injekteringsmedels; injektering; icke-Newtonska vätskors; tixotropi; kritisk deformationshastigheten; radiella strömning; glidning; Bingham modell; Jord- och bergmekanik; Soil and Rock Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : The rheological properties of cement-based grouts play a crucial role indetermining the final spread in grouted rock formations. In rheological terms,cement grouts are known to be complex time-dependent yield stress fluids,but their steady flow behavior is often described by the simple Binghamconstitutive law. LÄS MER
