  1. 1. Fetma och övervikt i barndomen - tidig identifiering av riskfaktorer

    Författare :Josefine Roswall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; childhood obesity; early riskfactors; waist circumference; gut microbiota;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The incidence of childhood obesity is increasing. Many children become obese during preschool years and stay obese, with lifelong health consequences, such as impaired insulin sensitivity. There is growing evidence that factors during intrauterine life and infancy influence the risk of developing obesity. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Diet and Cardiometabolic Disease : Dietary trends and the impact of diet on diabetes and cardiovascular disease

    Författare :Benno Krachler; Bernt Lindahl; Göran Hallmans; Mats Eliasson; Ingvar Bosaeus; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Cross-sectional study; Cross-sectional survey; Diet; Dietary intake; Dietary survey; Food consumption; Food frequency; Milk; MONICA; Sweden; Body Mass Index; Hip circumference; Waist circumference; Diabetes; Metabolic syndrome; Cardiometabolic syndrome; Cardiovascular disease; Erythrocyte Membrane; Fatty Acids; Membrane Lipids; Fatty acid desaturases; Pentadecanoic acid; Heptadecanoic acid; Lignan; Enterolactone; Dietary Fibre; Physical activity; Education; Smoking; Alcohol; Medicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in most industrialised countries and in developing countries the trend in cardiovascular-related deaths is increasing. World-wide, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is an emerging cause of disability and premature death. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Barnfetma och Metabola Syndromet hos förskolebarn - tidiga faktorer och identifiering av riskindivider från ett longitudinellt perspektiv : Childhood Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome in Preschool Children - Early markers and identification of individuals at increased risk in a longitudinal perspective

    Författare :Emma Kjellberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adiponectin; childhood obesity; insulin resistance; leptin; metabolic syndrome; n-6 fatty acids; Subcutaneous adipose tissue; Visceral adipose tissue; waist circumference;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Overweight and obesity have increased worldwide and affect children at ever younger ages, resulting in cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes even in adolescents. This illustrates the importance of identifying children at risk at an early stage. Aim: To study metabolic health in preschool children. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Economic perspectives on the obesity epidemic

    Författare :Åsa Ljungvall; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Obesity; body-mass index; BMI; waist circumference; inequality; socioeconomic inequalities; concentration index; socioeconomic disparities; time trends; economic freedom; misreporting; misclassification;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis takes its starting point in the large spread and rise in obesity prevalence that have been observed around the world, making obesity an increasing public health concern. The thesis consists of an introductory chapter, which justifies the study of obesity from economic perspectives and puts the subsequent studies in context, and four studies that address obesity from different economic perspectives. 5. 5. Human body composition. Reference data and anthropometric equations. The metabolic syndrome and risk

    Författare :Ingrid Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :adults; anthropometry; atherosclerotic morbidity; body composition; body fat; cardiovascular disease; DEXA; dual energy x-ray absorptiometry; fat-free mass; FFM; humans; metabolic syndrome; morbidity; mortality; prediction equations; randomly selected sample; reference data; sagittal trunk diameter; TBK; total body potassium; waist circumference;

    Sammanfattning : The determination of body composition is a key to the understanding of the relation between obesity and disease. In order to evaluate body composition data, reference values are needed. Since methods with high validity and reproducibility are expensive and often time consuming, simpler techniques based on anthropometry are needed. LÄS MER
