11. Attenuation of boundary layer disturbances by means of streamwise vortices
Sammanfattning : The stability of the boundary layer developed on a flat plate is studied in the presence of streamwise streaks where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at flow control by means of passively damping the energy growth of the disturbances in the streaky boundary layer and furthermore delay the onset of the transition in the streamwise direction. 12. Boundary layer streaks as a novel laminar flow control method
Sammanfattning : A novel laminar flow control based on generation of spanwise mean velocity gradients (SVG) in a flat plate boundary layer is investigated where disturbances of different types are introduced in the wall-bounded shear layer. The experimental investigations are aimed at; (i) generating stable and steady streamwise streaks in the boundary layer which set up spanwise gradients in the mean flow, and (ii) attenuating disturbance energy growth in the streaky boundary layers and hence delaying the onset of turbulence transition. 13. Active Flow Control for Aircrafts and Heavy Vehicles
Sammanfattning : Bluff-body flows are dominated by large dissipative vortex-shedding wakes with low mean pressure compared to the high pressure on their frontal area. This induced pressure difference is the major contribution to the total aerodynamic drag. LÄS MER
14. On the Aerodynamic Design of the Boxprop
Sammanfattning : Economic factors and environmental awareness are driving the evolution of aircraft engines towards increasingly lower fuel consumption and emissions. The Counter-Rotating Open Rotor (CROR) is actively being researched around the world, promising a significantly increased propulsion efficiency relative to existing turbofans by employing two, unducted, counter-rotating propeller blade rows, thereby increasing the bypass ratio of the engine and decreasing nacelle drag. 15. Feathers by day, membranes by night - Aerodynamic performance in bird and bat flight
Sammanfattning : The efficiency and performance of a flying animal is directly related to the aerodynamics around its body and flapping wings. Here, I have developed methods for quantifying the wake dynamics around a flying animal. The results are used to estimate the aerodynamic performance of flapping flight. LÄS MER
