  1. 11. Exocytosis in insulin secreting cells - role of SNARE-proteins

    Författare :Jenny Vikman; Diabetes - öcellsexocytos; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; calcium channel; cAMP; syntaxin 1; SNAP-25; SNARE; exocytosis; Insulin secretion; pancreatic beta-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is marked by deterioration in pancreatic β-cell function. SNARE-proteins are crucial for the fusion of insulin granules with the plasma membrane, a prerequisite for insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Calcium signaling in neurogenesis: regulation of proliferation, differentiation and migration of neural stem cells

    Författare :Paola Rebellato; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is a highly versatile and ubiquitous signaling messenger in all cell types. Signal transduction occurs through changes in the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration after the opening of Ca2+ channels in the plasma membrane (PM) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER). LÄS MER

  3. 13. Dopaminergic and serotonergic modulation of cellular and locomotor network properties in the lamprey spinal cord

    Författare :Martin Wikström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :5-hydroxytryptamine; Dopamine; Calcium channels; Calcium-dependent potassium channels; Afterhyperpolarization; Membrane potential oscillation; Synaptic transmission; Modulation; Central pattern generator; Locomotion; Spinal cord; Lamprey;

    Sammanfattning : Motor activity is the basis for all behavior. It is therefore important to study the processes generating movement such as the neuronal networks in the spinal cord that generates and controls locomotion. The lamprey is used as a model system for the study of locomotion. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Regulation of NMDA receptor properties by amino acids and cations : a biochemical and electrophysiological study

    Författare :Yun Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NMDA receptor; Glutamate; Glycine; [3H]MK-801 binding; Magnesium; Calcium; Tris; Potassium; Sodium; Proton; Xenopus oocytes; Spinal cord; Cerebral cortex; Receptor binding; Electrophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : NMDA receptors are glutamate-regulated ion channels that are permeable to Ca2+, Na+ and K+ and are sensitive to voltage-dependent Mg2+-block. To investigate the modulatory effects of amino acids and cations on NMDA receptors and the possible regional differences in the pharmacology of NMDA receptors, I used mainly two techniques in this thesis: electrophysiological analysis of expressed NMDA receptors in Xenopusoocytes and biochemical receptor binding using [3H]MK-801 in membrane preparations from the rat cerebral cortex and spinal cord. 5. 15. Cellular mechanisms of interaction between uropathogenic Escherichia coli and renal epithelial cells

    Författare :Åsa Laestadius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections will often, particularly in children, lead to renal scar formation or hypoplastic small kidneys post-infectiously. The most common causative agent is uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). LÄS MER
