11. Carbon utilisation for extended nitrogen removal and resource savings
Sammanfattning : A full-scale in-line primary sludge hydrolysis experiment was conducted in one out of four primary settlers at the Klagshamn Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to test if the wastewater quality can be improved in terms of providing easily accessible carbon for possible pre-denitrification and the reduction of external carbon sources. The amount of easily accessible carbon produced, in the form of the volatile fatty acid (VFA), alkalinity and ammonium concentrations, was measured throughout the entire full-scale experiment at the outlet of the hydrolysis tank and that of the ordinary primary settler, which served as a reference line. 12. Phenols, anisoles and fatty acids causing odour problems in drinking water
Sammanfattning : Taste and odour problems are the major causes of consumer complaints regarding drinking water in the industrialised world. Nevertheless, as yet there are no mandatory requirements to identify the compounds that are responsible for the observed off-flavour. LÄS MER
13. From sequence to function : Comparative studies of insect olfactory receptors
Sammanfattning : In insects airborne odors are detected by the odorant receptors (ORs) and ionotropic receptors (IRs), located on the dendritic membrane of the olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) housed in olfactory sensilla. The OR and IR gene families show high plasticity in lineage expansion and contraction following the birth-and-death evolutionary model. LÄS MER
14. Valorisation of fish waste biomass through recovery of nutritional lipids and biogas
Sammanfattning : Commercial fish catch in Eastern Africa is dominated by Nile Perch. Of the fish that is processed for human consumption, 30-40% is wasted. Currently, these wastes are not fully utilized; they are sold off at low price, converted to low valued products or left to decompose leading to environmental pollution and wastage of bioresource. 15. Anaerobic Treatment of Agricultural Residues and Wastewater - Application of High-Rate Reactors
Sammanfattning : The production of methane via anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and industrial wastewater would benefit society by providing a clean fuel from renewable feedstocks. This would reduce the use of fossil-fuel-derived energy and reduce environmental impact, including global warming and pollution. LÄS MER
