  1. 1. Methods for measurement of vocal fold vibration and viscoelasticity

    Författare :Hans Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :High-speed video imaging; kymography; acoustic analysis; vocal fold vibration; glottal edge; glottal area; laser; mucosal wave; triangulation; vocal fold; vocal fold length; vocal fold width; vocal fold strain; non-invasive; vocal fold scarring; air pulse stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to develop new methods for analysis of vocal fold vibrations and viscoelasticity and to test them in human subjects. In Study I the onset of vibration and irregular vocal fold vibration was examined with laryngoscopy using a high-speed camera at a frame rate of about 2000 images/sec. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Electroglottographic analysis of phonatory dynamics and states

    Författare :Andreas Selamtzis; Sten Ternström; Malte Kob; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; voice function; phonation; vocal fold vibration; vocal registers; electroglottography;

    Sammanfattning : The human voice is a product of an intricate biophysical system. The complexity of this system enables a rich variety of possible sounds, but at the same time poses great challenges for quantitative voice analysis. For example, the vocal folds can vibrate in several different ways, leading to variations in the acoustic output. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Reconstruction of vocal fold scarring with mesenchymal stromal cell therapy

    Författare :Srinivasa Rao Nagubothu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Tissue injury/scarring of the vocal folds (VFs) can be caused by various factors including external trauma, cancer treatment or inflammation, leading to damage within the vibrating layers and a decrease in viscoelastic functions. These effects ultimately result in severe voice problems. This condition leads to significant morbidity for patients. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modelling the Production and Propagation of Sound in Individual Human Vocal Tracts

    Författare :Lukas Schickhofer; Mihai Mihaescu; Anders Dahlkild; Manfred Kaltenbacher; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomechanics; Vocal Tract Acoustics; Numerical Flow Simulation; Fluid-Structure Interaction;

    Sammanfattning : Voice generation and the expression through speech are of vital importance for communication. The human upper airways are the origin of the process of speech production, which involves a modulation of the periodically pulsed pressure from the lungs by the vocal tract volume. 5. 5. Computer methods for voice analysis

    Författare :Svante Granqvist; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :voice analysis; perceptual analysis; fundamental frequency; correlogram; aperiodicity; Fourier analysis; high-speed imaging; laryngoscopy; vocal fold vibration; voice accumulation.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five articles and a summary. Thethesis deals with methods for measuring properties of thevoice. The methods are all computer-based, but utilisedifferent approaches for measuring different aspects of thevoice. Paper I introduces the Visual Sort and Rate (VSR) method forperceptual rating of voice quality. LÄS MER
