  1. 1. Vitamin A regulated neuronal regeneration and homeostasis

    Författare :Sofia Håglin; Anna Berghard; Staffan Bohm; Leif Carlsson; Ola Hermanson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Activity dependent; Adult stem cells; Ageing; CYP26B1; Homeostasis; Metaplasia; Neurogenesis; Olfactory epithelium; Regeneration; Respiratory epithelium; Retinoic acid; Sensory map; Vitamin A;

    Sammanfattning : The olfactory epithelium is a dynamic tissue maintained by continuous neurogenesis throughout life. Upon injury, neurons and other olfactory cell types are regenerated through proliferation of horizontal stem cells. Some genes that regulate vitamin A metabolism are spatially expressed in the olfactory epithelium. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Vitamin A and Osteoporosis : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Författare :Sara Johansson; Håkan Melhus; Andreas Kindmark; Monica Lind; Göran Toss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; vitamin A; bone; osteoporosis; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin A in high doses is severely toxic to the rat skeleton, and the active metabolite retinoic acid (RA) can induce bone resorption in vitro. An excessive dietary intake of vitamin A has been associated with reduced bone mineral density and an increased risk of hip fracture. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on Vitamin A Signaling in Psoriasis : A Comparison Between Normal and Lesional Keratinocytes

    Författare :Teresa Karlsson; Jan Öivind Moskaug; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Psoriasis; vitamin A; retinoids; retinoid receptor; differentiation; keratinocyte; skin; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin A and metabolites (retinoids) are crucial for normal epidermal maturation. Physiological effects are mediated by retinoic acid (RA) that activates nuclear retinoic acid receptors (RARs) in complexes with retinoid X receptors (RXRs), resulting in altered gene transcription.Psoriasis is a common disease with unknown etiology. Sammanfattning : Studies were performed on methodological issues on vitamin A intake, status and improvement in three Asian countries, to improve the dietary approach recommended by FAO/WHO to alleviate vitamin A deficiency in low-income countries.The reliability of the practical 24-hour dietary recall method to assess individual intake of vitamin A during pregnancy was investigated in Central Java, Indonesia.
