21. Immunological mechanisms regulating neuroinflammation : a role for C-type lectin receptors and vitamin D
Sammanfattning : Autoimmunity of the central nervous system (CNS) such as in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or its animal model Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis (EAE) requires the activation of self-reactive immune cells and the presentation of self-antigen by mature antigen presenting cells (APCs). In this thesis I have studied genetic and environmental mechanisms affecting APCs and CD4+ T cells which regulate susceptibility to EAE induced with myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) in the rat. 22. Molecular mechanism of cell regulatory properties of vitamin D analogues in human cancer cell lines
Sammanfattning : The active form of vitamin D, 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, is a potent modulator of the induction of differentiation and inhibition of cell growth in both malignant and normal cells. Vitamin D and its analogues exert their effects through a transcription factor, the nuclear vitamin D receptor (VDR). LÄS MER
23. Protein Interactions Involving the Laminin G-type Domains of Vitamin K-dependent Protein S
Sammanfattning : The studies described in this thesis focus on the involvement of the two laminin G-type domains of vitamin K-dependent protein S in various biological contexts. The G-type domains are located in the C-terminal sex-hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)-like region. LÄS MER
24. Infant Anemia and Micronutrient Status : Studies of Early Determinants in Rural Bangladesh
Sammanfattning : Anemia and micronutrient deficiencies in infancy are common in low-income settings. These are partly due to maternal malnutrition and may impair child health and development. LÄS MER
25. Näringsvärden i vilda svenska växter : analyser och fysiologiska studier av olika komponenter med tonvikt på kolhydrater, protein och vitamin C
Sammanfattning : In order to investigate the possibility of using wild plants as food in emergency situations and to provide results for further physiological studies, the content and seasonal variations of different nutritive components were investigated in 80 wild Swedish species, including 9 lichens. The plants were analysed for: glucose, fructose, galactose, sucrose, inulin, starch, crude protein, ascorbic acid, minerals, ash and amino acids. LÄS MER
