  1. 1. Translational regulation of genes in salmonella typhimurium by vitamin B12

    Författare :Solveig Ravnum; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Transational Control; Salmonella typhimurium; Vitamin B12; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have studied the mechanism by which vitamin B12 regulates the expression of the cob operon and the btuB gene in Salmonella typhimurium. The cob operon encodes most of the 25 genes required for the de novo synthesis of vitamin B12, and the butB gene encodes the outer membrane protein needed for transport of exogenous vitamin B12 into the cell. 2. 2. Vitamin B12 and folate depletion in the elderly. Diagnosis, clinical correlates and causes

    Författare :Catharina Lewerin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; aged; methylmalonic acid; homocysteine; vitamin B12; folic acid; renal function; cognition; movement; atrophic gastritis;

    Sammanfattning : Subclinical vitamin B12 and folate deficiency is common in the elderly. The clinical significance remains unresolved. There is not a universally accepted set of laboratory criteria for diagnosis, however subclinical deficiency is important to diagnose since it is easy to treat. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Urinary diversion by the Kock ileal reservoir. Studies on clinical outcome, quality of life, bile acid and vitamin B12 metabolism

    Författare :Gunnar Olofsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kock reservoir; urinary diversion; quality of life; bile acids; vitamin B12;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Urinary diversion with the Kock ileal reservoir has been performed at Sahlgrenska University Hospital since 1975. One key question is the long-term consequences regarding glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and quality of life of this kind of surgery. Other important topics are the consequences due to loss of ileum. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Vitamin D and its role in obesity and other associated conditions

    Författare :Christos Karefylakis; Eva Rask; Stefan Särnblad; Kerstin Landin-Wilhelmsen; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vitamin D; obesity; Roux-en-Y gastric bypass; secondary hyperpara-thyroidism; anemia; iron deficiency; body composition; cardiorespiratory fitness; Vitamin D C3 epimer;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin D has received much attention in recent years due to the re-emergence of vitamin D deficiency as a global health issue along with increasing evidence indicating that 1,25-dihydroxivitamin D, the hormonally active form of vita-min D, not only acts in calcium and bone metabolism but also generates ex-traskeletal biological responses.In this thesis, the role of vitamin D in obesity and other associated condi-tions has been studied. 5. 5. Infant Anemia and Micronutrient Status : Studies of Early Determinants in Rural Bangladesh

    Författare :Hanna Eneroth; Eva-Charlotte Ekström; Lars-Åke Persson; Usha Ramakrishnan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Micronutrients; Anemia; Iron Deficiency; Zinc Deficiency; Vitamin A Deficiency; Vitamin B12 Deficiency; Folic Acid Deficiency; Infant; Pregnancy; Dietary Supplementation; Hemoglobin; Dose-Response Relationship; Exclusive Breast Feeding; Bangladesh; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; International Health; Internationell hälsa;

    Sammanfattning : Anemia and micronutrient deficiencies in infancy are common in low-income settings. These are partly due to maternal malnutrition and may impair child health and development. LÄS MER
