  1. 1. Reinforcement Learning for Active Visual Perception

    Författare :Aleksis Pirinen; Mathematical Imaging Group; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer vision; reinforcement learning; deep learning; active vision; object detection; human pose estimation; semantic segmentation;

    Sammanfattning : Visual perception refers to automatically recognizing, detecting, or otherwise sensing the content of an image, video or scene. The most common contemporary approach to tackle a visual perception task is by training a deep neural network on a pre-existing dataset which provides examples of task success and failure, respectively. 2. 2. Skuggor av sanning : Tidig svensk radiologi och visuell kultur

    Författare :Solveig Jülich; Boel Berner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; science studies; visual culture; history of Swedish radiology; professionalization; scientific images; scientific observation; objectivity; subjectivity; judgment; röntgenfotografi; medicinhistoria; radiologi historia; visuell perception; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN; HUMANITIES and RELIGION;

    Sammanfattning : The present study deals with the introduction and reception of x-ray images in Sweden around 1900. The general aim is to investigate two cultural contexts of the early x-ray image. It is shown that during the initial years x-ray images were wedded with photographs and film in an expanding mass visual culture. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Use of 2D and 3D Displays in Military Settings

    Författare :Patrik Lif; Leo Poom; Kip Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; visuell perception; 3D; displays; spatial cues; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the possibilities of using 3D perspective displays in different military settings, and to illustrate the limitations of 3D displays, that is, when 2D displays are to be preferred. More specifically, this thesis explores (a) readability during vibrations, (b) perception aspects on perspective aircraft displays, and (c) the value of spatial cues in 3D air traffic displays in military settings. 4. 4. Learning visual perception for autonomous systems

    Författare :Gustav Häger; Michael Felsberg; Per-Erik Forssén; Fahad Shahbaz Khan; Roman Pflugfelder; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer vision; visual object tracking; tracking; machine learning; deep learning;

    Sammanfattning : In the last decade, developments in hardware, sensors and software have made it possible to create increasingly autonomous systems. These systems can be as simple as limited driver assistance software lane-following in cars, or limited collision warning systems for otherwise manually piloted drones. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Novelty in the Uncanny : Designing Interactions to Change First Impressions

    Författare :Maike Paetzel-Prüsmann; Ginevra Castellano; Christopher Peters; Ingela Nyström; Gabriel Skantze; Astrid Rosenthal-von der Pütten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human-Robot Interaction; Uncanny Valley; Social Robotics; Human Perception of Robots; Multimodal Behavior; Computer Science with specialization in Human-Computer Interaction; Datavetenskap med inriktning mot människa-datorinteraktion;

    Sammanfattning : In 1970, Japanese researcher Masahiro Mori published a seminal paper where he hypothesized that robots that appear human-like but are still distinguishable from being human would not attract people towards them, but instead cause an uncanny sensation. This phenomenon, known as the uncanny valley effect, has been widely studied within the social robotics community, and a multitude of experiments have since been conducted supporting Mori's hypothesis.
