  1. 1. Advances in DNA Detection

    Författare :Yajing Song; Olof Emanuelsson; Jonas Tegenfeldt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; DNA detection; active filter paper; visual detection; throughput; fluorescence; superparamagnetic beads; rare DNA; Q-PCR; chemical fragmentation; DNA library preparation; massively parallel sequencing; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : DNA detection technologies have an increasing importance in our everyday lives, with applications ranging from microbial diagnostics to forensic analysis, food safety evaluation, and environmental monitoring. Currently, as the associated costs decrease, DNA diagnostic techniques are routinely used in research laboratories, in clinical and forensic practice. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Visual analytics for maritime anomaly detection

    Författare :Maria Riveiro; Göran Falkman; Tom Ziemke; Dag Stranneby; Mikael Jern; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; visual analytics; anomaly detection; maritime traffic monitoring; analytical reasoning; information fusion; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Information technology; Informationsteknik; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Datalogi; Computer and Systems Science; Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The surveillance of large sea areas typically involves  the analysis of huge quantities of heterogeneous data.  In order to support the operator while monitoring maritime traffic, the identification of anomalous behavior or situations that might need further investigation may reduce operators' cognitive load. 3. 3. Change Detection of the Unexpected : Enhancing change detection of the unexpected in a complex and high risk context – guiding visual attention in a digital display environment

    Författare :Ulrik Spak; Else Nygren; Patrik Sörqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; awareness; change blindness; change detection; command and control; display; feedback; human-computer interaction; inattentional blindness; monitoring; surveillance; visual cue; Människa-dator interaktion; Human-Computer Interaction; Ledningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Change detection of objects and events in our visual surroundings is sometimes severely difficult, especially if these changes are unexpected. Such failures in change detection may cause huge malicious outcomes in contexts characterized by high levels of complexity and risk. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Data Driven Visual Recognition

    Författare :Omid Aghazadeh; Stefan Carlsson; Jiri Matas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Visual Recognition; Data Driven; Supervised Learning; Mixture Models; Non-Parametric Models; Category Recognition; Novelty Detection;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is mostly about supervised visual recognition problems. Based on a general definition of categories, the contents are divided into two parts: one which models categories and one which is not category based. We are interested in data driven solutions for both kinds of problems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neural limits of visual resolution

    Författare :Zoran Popovic; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cell separation; cortical magnification; detection; estimated receptive field; high-pass filtered optotypes; nyquist limit; psychophysics; resolution; ganglion cells;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to formulate a model of retinal neural circuitry in humans based on morphological estimates of retinal cone and ganglion cell populations, to compare results based on this model to psychophysical measurements of visual resolution and identify the retinal neural factors that limit visual resolution.Materials & Methods: Total displacement of central ganglion cells from foveal cones was obtained by estimating the length of fibers of Henle in four human retinas along the nasal or vertical hemi-meridians.
