  1. 1. Probing and elucidating the dynamics of virus-membrane interaction via plasma membrane mimics

    Författare :Konrad Thorsteinsson; Marta Bally; Hudson Pace; Gisa Gerold; Susan Daniel; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma membrane; supported lipid bilayer; binding kinetics; equilibrium fluctuation analysis; TIRF; FRET; norovirus; HSV; SARS-CoV-2; histo-blood group antigens; ApoE; heparan sulfate; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Virus infection is initiated by the attachment of a virion to a susceptible cell’s plasma membrane, in a highly dynamic and well-orchestrated process that encompasses various steps and engages numerous viral and cellular factors. These dynamic steps may include initial non-specific binding to ubiquitous cell-membrane ligands, diffusion across the membrane to a suitable entry site and virus engagement with various receptors and co-receptors on the cell surface. 2. 2. Virus-cell membrane interactions - Binding studies of Herpes Simplex Virus using surface-sensitive techniques

    Författare :Nadia Peerboom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TIRF microscopy; single particle tracking; binding kinetics; glycosaminoglycans; herpes simplex virus;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are parasites capable of infecting all forms of life. They lack the ability to replicate by themselves and therefore hijack the replication machinery of cells to produce new viral copies, called virions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Unraveling the molecular mechanisms of herpes simplex virus attachment and release using cell membrane mimics

    Författare :Nadia Peerboom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; glycosaminoglycans; atomic force microscopy; binding kinetics; single particle tracking; herpes simplex virus;

    Sammanfattning : The herpes simplex virus is a widespread human pathogen, most commonly known for causing cold sores. Its infection cycle is initiated with the formation of multiple bonds between viral glycoproteins and cellular glycosaminoglycans, which are long polysaccharide chains found close to the cell surface. 4. 4. Assembly and entry mechanisms of Semliki Forest virus

    Författare :Bernd Uwe Barth; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Semliki Forest virus; virus assembly; protein oligomerization; virus budding;

    Sammanfattning : The genomes of enveloped viruses are packaged into a core or nucleocapsid (NC) which is surrounded by a lipid membrane with spike proteins. These viruses mature by budding at a membrane of the host cell, usually the plasma membrane (PM), and penetrate into new ones by a virus-host membrane fusion event. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mapping the Golgi retention signal in the G1 membrane glycoprotein of Uukuniemi virus, a member of the Bunyaviridae family

    Författare :Agneta M Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Golgi complex; retention signal; protein transport; virus membrane glycoproteins; virus budding; Uukuniemi virus; Phlebovirus; Bunyaviridae;

    Sammanfattning : Newly synthesized secretory and integral membrane proteins destined for the plasma membrane are transported along the exocytic pathway from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) via the Golgi complex (GC) to the cell surface. Some of the transported proteins contain information, which target them to their correct intracellular locations. LÄS MER
