  1. 1. Seroepidemiology of vaccine-preventable and emerging RNA viruses in Rwanda

    Författare :Eric Seruyange; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Seroprevalence; measles virus; rubella virus; Zika virus; West Nile virus; chikungunya virus; tick-borne encephalitis virus; mosquitoes; linear epitopes; Rwanda; Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Infectious diseases are a leading cause of death in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Rwanda diarrhea, lower respiratory and other common infections are linked to high mortality and morbidity. For children ... LÄS MER

  2. 2. Biochemical and structural studies of proteins supporting the genome replication of enteroviruses and Giardia intestinalis

    Författare :Kasturika Shankar; Lars-Anders Carlson; Daniel Hurdiss; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Enterovirus genus of the Picornaviridae family includes non-enveloped, positive-sense single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) viruses. This genus of viruses causes many diseases such as poliomyelitis by poliovirus (PV), cardiomyopathy by coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3), common cold by rhinoviruses (RVs) and meningitis by Enterovirus 71 (EV 71). The 7. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Serum Amyloid A Protein (SAA) in Healthy and Infected Individuals

    Författare :Anders Lannergård; Göran Friman; Anders Larsson; Uwe Ewald; Jonas Hedlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Communicable diseases; acute phase proteins; adult; Administration Oral; aminoglycosides; amyloidosis; antibiotics; bacterial infections; body temperature; C-reactive protein; cefuroxime; cystitis; cytokines; elderly; infant; interleukin-6; newborn; pyelonephritis; serum amyloid A protein; virus diseases; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious diseases; Infektionssjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Serum amyloid A protein (SAA) is an acute phase protein that has recently gained increasing interest as a potential marker for disease and treatment monitoring. We investigated SAA and CRP levels in (a) patients with various common infectious diseases (n=98), (b) patients with pyelonephritis (n=37) versus patients with cystitis (n=32), (c) healthy individuals of varying ages (n=231), (d) very immature newborn infants with or without nosocomial infections (NIs) (n=72) and (e) patients with bacterial infections treated with cefuroxime (n=81). 4. 4. Initiation of herpes simplex virus DNA replication

    Författare :Stina Simonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; initiation of DNA replication; origin binding protein; Herpes Simplex Virus;

    Sammanfattning : During virus infection multiple new copies of the virus genome are made by a DNA synthesis machinery. Initiation of DNA replication involves the recognition of origins of DNA replication by an initiator protein. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Hepatitis C virus infection : a nationwide study of associated morbidity and mortality

    Författare :Ann-Sofi Duberg; Erik Bäck; Karl Ekdahl; Rolf Hultcrantz; Anders Blaxhult; Johan Carlson; Örebro universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The hepatitis C virus (HCV) was characterised in 1989. HCV was transmitted through transfusion of blood/blood products, but injection drug use is now the most common route of transmission. LÄS MER
