1. Molecular characterization of the Tick-borne encephalitis virus : Environments and replication
Sammanfattning : The flavivirus genus is of major concern for world morbidity and mortality and includes viruses causing both encephalitic as well as hemorrhagic diseases. The incidence of Tick-borne encephalitis is increasing in many European countries and several reports have emphasized the expansion of the main vector, Ixodes ricinus. LÄS MER
2. Characterization of non-coding mRNA in Epstein-Barr virus
Sammanfattning : Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a human gammaherpesvirus that infects lymphoid and epithelial cells. The virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis, a self-limiting lymphoproliferative disease, and it is additionally associated with various malignancies including Burkitt?s lymphoma, Hodgkin?s disease and lymphoproliferative syndromes in immunocompromised individuals. 3. Fabrication, development and characterization of a waveguide microscopy device for biological applications
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of biological systems has advanced significantly thanks to the development of microscopy methods and suitable biological assays. Surface based methods have increasingly gained interest thanks to their superior sensitivity and ease of use. LÄS MER
4. Functional characterization of interactions between the flavivirus NS5 protein and PDZ proteins of the mammalian host
Sammanfattning : Flaviviruses are found all over the world and affect and infect millions of people every year. Flavivirus infection can lead to severe clinical outcomes resulting in neuronal damages e.g. Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV), or severe hemorrhagic fevers e. LÄS MER
5. Tick-borne encephalitis : prognosis, immunization and virus strain characterization
Sammanfattning : The aims were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) both in the acute phase and at long-term follow-up, to develop a rapid neutralization test for confirmation of TBEV-specific antibody response and to study the serological response after TBE-vaccination and, finally, to characterize Swedish human TBEV isolates. The morbidity was studied in one retrospective follow-up study of consecutive TBE-patients, treated during a 10-year period (Paper 1) and in one prospective study of TBE-patients with aseptic meningoencephalitis of non-TBE etiology as a reference group (Paper II).
