1. Influenza Neuraminidase : Novel mechanisms of influenza NA that enable adaptation and promote diversification
Sammanfattning : Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are one of the most common human respiratory pathogens and are largely responsible for the seasonal influenza epidemics that cause mild to severe disease. The two IAV glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA or H) and neuraminidase (NA or N), serve as the major surface antigens and also are the main determinants of infectivity, pathogenicity and transmissibility. 2. Incorporation of cellular proteins into enveloped virus particles
Sammanfattning : This thesis work aimed to investigate the assembly and budding of enveloped virus particles with focus on the fate of cellular proteins, present in or near the plasma membrane (PM) where the budding occurs. It was previously shown that compact viruses, like alphaviruses, with a covering outer protein coat, did not contain any cellular proteins in the envelope. LÄS MER
3. Retargeting of adenovirus vectors. Viral ligands and cellular receptors
Sammanfattning : Gene therapy is one of the newest technologies attempted to treat human cancer. Progress in the field has however been hampered by the lack of efficient and safe vectors. Ideal vectors should specifically transduce desired cells in vivo. This thesis is devoted to the development and evaluation of retargeted adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vectors. LÄS MER
4. Altering HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein maturation and its effects on viral infectivity
Sammanfattning : HIV-1 is dependent on its envelope glycoprotein (Env) to initiate infection. Env binds to cellular receptors and mediate the following fusion of the viral envelope with the cell plasma membrane. LÄS MER
5. Pseudovirions in the Study of Papilloma- and Polyomaviruses
Sammanfattning : The papilloma- and polyomaviruses are small DNA viruses that infect humans. Some members of these virus families can cause cancer in experimental animals and some are also established as carcinogenic to humans. LÄS MER
