6. On the control of virtual violins : Physical modelling and control of bowed string instruments
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the control of sound synthesis of bowed string instruments based on physical modelling. The work followed two approaches: (a) a systematic exploration of the influence of control parameters (bow force, bow velocity, and bow-bridge distance) on the output of a physical model of the violin, and (b) measurements and analyses of the bowing parameters in real violin playing in order to model and parameterize basic classes of bowing patterns for synthesis control. 7. Machine tool vibrations and violin sound fields studied using laser vibrometry
Sammanfattning : The knowledge of the dynamic behaviour of a milling process is very important for finding an optimum process window. In today's manufacturing industry the machining parameters are often predicted using experimental data from non-rotating spindles. LÄS MER
8. Levande musik : Ritornellen och musikens skapande
Sammanfattning : Many years of working with electroacoustic music evoke the question in what sense one can talk about life in music. The question does not concern traces of the composer's life in the work, vivifying performances or musical experiences full of life, but rather the life of music itself. LÄS MER
9. Sound and vibrations in structures with air enclosures
Sammanfattning : Vibrations in thin shell structures and sound fields in enclosures are investigated as well as the interaction between such structures and the enclosed sound field. Optical, non-contacting methods as TV holography, shearography and laser scanning vibrometry are used to investigate vibrations of thin shell structures with air enclosures. LÄS MER
10. Development of Helmholtz motion and related wave patterns in the bowed string
Sammanfattning : Of the many wave patterns that the bowed string is capableof producing, the so-calledHelmholtz motion(Helmholtz 1862) gives the fullest sound in terms of power andovertone richness. Papers one and two of this thesis deal withthe creation of this particular string movement: The firstpaper, based on computer analysis, describes some systemparametersinfluence on the transient in terms ofplayability.
