  1. 1. Lung Emphysema & Cardiac Function

    Författare :Kirsten Jörgensen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :emphysema; hemodynamics; ventricular end-diastolic volumes; lung volume reduction; ventricular function; transoesophageal echocardiography; magnetic resonance imaging; diastole; simendan; hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with severe lung emphysema have poor quality of life because of impaired lung function and reduced exercise tolerance. Concomitant heart disease in severe emphysema is well recognised. The prevailing view is that mainly the right side of the heart is involved, while the issue of left ventricular (LV) involvement is less studied. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Left Ventricular Dynamics During Exercise in Endurance Athletes

    Författare :Milena Sundstedt; Tommy Jonason; Egil Henriksen; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Physiology; athletes; exercise; left ventricular dynamics; stroke volume; mitral annular motion; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Large quantities of data have described left ventricular adaptation to endurance training, but basic concepts on left ventricular performance during exercise remain controversial. In this thesis, we present the results of studies of left ventricular dynamics during exercise in 89 endurance-trained athletes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Left ventricular filling during coronary artery bypass grafting

    Författare :Sten Samuelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Heart: surgery; coronary artery revascularization; ventricle; mitral valve Cardiopulmonary bypass Cardiac output Thermodilution Echocardiography: transesophageal; two-dimensional; Doppler Radionuclide ventriculographySten Samue;

    Sammanfattning : Left ventricular (LV) filling, determination of preload, right ventricular end-diastolic volumes, volume contributions during early (E) and atrial (A) phases of LV filling and mitral valve opening areas were studied in 75 patients scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The purposes of the study were: (1) To evaluate changes in LV filling judged as peak velocity E/A ratios determined by Doppler transesophageal echocardiography during and in the early phase after CABG. 4. 4. Quantification of 4D Left Ventricular Blood Flow in Health and Disease

    Författare :Jonatan Eriksson; Tino Ebbers; Carl-Johan Carlhäll; Gianni Pedrizzetti; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MRI; relative pressure; 4D flow; quantification; turbulent kinetic energy; dilated cardiomyopathy; magnetic resonance imaging; physiology; cardiac function; diastolic dysfunction;

    Sammanfattning : The main function of the heart is to pump blood throughout the cardiovascular system by generating pressure differences created through volume changes. Although the main purpose of the heart and vessels is to lead the flowing blood throughout the body, clinical assessments of cardiac function are usually based on morphology, approximating the flow features by viewing the motion of the myocardium and vessels. 5. 5. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Myocardial Deformation and Scarring in Coronary Artery Disease

    Författare :Johan Kihlberg; Jan Engvall; Tino Ebbers; Anders Persson; Åse Johnsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Although improved treatments have reduced the rates of acute complications from myocardial infarction, sequelae such as heart failure and sudden death threaten the future wellbeing of those patients. Secondary prevention after myocardial infarction is related to cardiovascular risk factors and the effect of the infarct on left ventricular function. LÄS MER
