  1. 1. Cardiac arrhythmias and heart rate variability in familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy : A clinical study before and after liver transplantation

    Författare :Rolf Hörnsten; Urban Wiklund; Staffan Andersson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physiology; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy (FAP), found in the northernmost counties in Sweden, is a rare, lethal and inherited amyloidosis. The disease is caused by mutated transthyretin (TTR). The mutation is characterized by an exchange of valine for methionine at position 30 (ATTRVal30Met). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Heart rate variability and pacemaker treatment in children with Fontan circulation

    Författare :Jenny Alenius Dahlqvist; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Jaana Pihkala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital heart disease; Fontan circulation; heart rate variability; pacemaker; sinus node dysfunction; pediatrik; Pediatrics; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Fontan surgery is performed in children with univentricular heart defects. Arrhythmias are frequent complications, occasionally requiring pacemaker treatment. Previous data regarding indications and risk factors for pacemaker treatment in Fontan patients is limited and conflicting. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers

    Författare :Anna Lundström; Annika Rydberg; Urban Wiklund; Håkan Eliasson; Jacob Tfelt-Hansen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Long QT syndrome; pediatrics; exercise; Holter; water immersion; arrhythmia; clinical physiology; ECG; heart rate variability; heart rate response; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning; kardiologi; Cardiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 4. 4. Cardiovascular regulation and vascular structure in prehypertension and coronary heart disease

    Författare :Anna Myredal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :prehypertension; coronary heart disease; repolarization; baroreflex; intima thickness; CABG; non-dippers;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterize vascular structure and different aspects of cardiovascular regulation in otherwise healthy subjects with slightly elevated blood pressure and compare to healthy subjects with normotension and also investigate patients with established primary or secondary hypertension and coronary heart disease. Altered cardiac repolarization and arterial baroreflex function has been associated with adverse prognosis and increased risk for ventricular arrhythmias in patients with cardiovascular diseases. 5. 5. Effects of ageing and training on the human heart

    Författare :Frederic Bouvier; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ageing; endurance training; exercise capacity; myocardial perfusion scintigraphy; ejection fraction; left ventricular end-diastolic volume; ventricular arrhythmias and heart rate variability;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present studies was to evaluate the effects of ageing and endurance training on the human heart. One hundred and twelve healthy subjects, athletes and non-athletes, between 20 and 80 years of age and two master athletes between 70 and 80 years of age with previous myocardial infarction were investigated.
