6. Noninvasive characterization of patients with monomorphic ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation using the signal-averaged electrocardiogram. A study on late potentials and spectral turbulence in patients with ischemic heart disease and in healthy subjects
Sammanfattning : Many people die suddenly from sustained ventricular tachyarrhythmias caused by ischemic heart disease, and the sudden death may be the first presentation of heart disease. If the patients at risk of ventricular tachyarrhythmia could be identified, some patients may be saved. LÄS MER
7. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers
Sammanfattning : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. LÄS MER
8. Catching broken hearts - Electrocardiography and in-hospital outcome in Takotsubo syndrome versus ST elevation myocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Takotsubo syndrome (TS) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have similar symptoms, non-invasive test results and complications. Whereas AMI is caused by cardiac ischemia, the pathophysiology of TS is incompletely understood. LÄS MER
9. Autonomic cardiac control in long QT syndrome : clinical studies of arrhythmogenic triggers
Sammanfattning : Background: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is an inherited cardiac disease characterized by prolonged cardiac repolarization and an increased risk for life-threatening arrhythmias. These arrhythmias are typically triggered by adrenergic stimuli, such as physical activity and intense emotions, implicating that the sympathetic part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) is involved in arrhythmogenesis. 10. Myocardial creatine metabolism in experimental infarction and heart failure
Sammanfattning : The failing heart is characterized by changes in structure, function and metabolism. All these changes are usually defined as pathologic remodelling. An important part of this negative remodelling process is disturbances in the myocardial energy metabolism. LÄS MER
