    Författare :Catarina Tingsvik; Jan Mårtensson; Fredrik Hammarskjöld; Maria Henricson; Anna Forsberg; Jönköping University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intensive care; caring; patients; family; nurses; physicians; mechanical ventilation; ventilator weaning; person-centred care; qualitative research method;

    Sammanfattning : Critically ill patients with failing respiratory and vital body functions might need invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). When the patient’s condition improves, the need for respiratory support decreases and weaning from IMV begins. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prolonged mechanical ventilation in Swedish intensive care units: patient characteristics, prevalence, weaning and challenges in care

    Författare :Carl-Johan Cederwall; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the care of adult patients on prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) in Swedish intensive care units (ICUs). Secondary aims were to identify the prevalence, characteristics and outcome in patients with PMV and the presence of person-centred care (PCC) during prolonged weaning in Swedish ICUs. Study I. 3. 3. Neurally adjusted ventilatory assist : from animal studies to clinical practice

    Författare :Francesca Campoccia Jalde; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist;

    Sammanfattning : Patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) undergoing ventilator treatment may experience asynchrony with the ventilator, which has been associated with increased need of sedation, sleep disruption, prolonged mechanical ventilation and unsuccessful weaning from the ventilator. The search for new strategies to improve patient-ventilator interaction is ongoing. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aspects of lung mechanics during mechanical ventilation

    Författare :Magni Gudmundsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute respiratory failure; Acute respiratory distress syndrome; Mechanical ventilation; Transpulmonary pressure; Expiratory time constant; Esophageal pressure;

    Sammanfattning : Background: One of the most common diagnoses in the intensive care unit is acute respiratory failure. In its most severe form it is called acute respiratory distress syndrome and often requires mechanical ventilation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. New Intraoperative Techniques to Improve Advanced Aortic Root Surgery

    Författare :Faleh Alrashidi; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Modified Ross Operation; Aortic Root surgery; Microemboli signals MES ; Transcranial Doppler TCD ; Acute plateletphersis APP ; Transesophageal echocardiography TEE ; de-airing;

    Sammanfattning : Study I: Thirteen patients underwent a modified Ross operation in which the free-standing pulmonary autograft was supported externally by a Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). The tailor-made DVPJ prevented dilatation of the neo-aortic root significantly following a median follow-up of 47 months compared to a cohort of l3 matched patients undergoing conventional Ross operation.
