1. Performance-based design of ventilation systems. Potential and limitations regarding indoor air quality
Sammanfattning : It has been increasingly common to design for increased ventilation rates above legislative requirements specified in building codes and other norms as the most optimum way to improve indoor air quality. However, this concept has recently been challenged, for example, by studies demonstrating that the emissions or pollution from used traditional particle filters increases proportionally with air flow through the filter. 2. Load-Haul-Dump operations in underground mines
Sammanfattning : The research presented in this thesis addresses several aspects of loading operations inunderground mines, in particular tools and equipment selection. It also addresses the flexibilityof the fleet when subject to substantial disturbances, such as ore pass loss, and proposes integration of the scheduling system with discrete event simulation. 3. Thermal models of buildings : determination of temperatures, heating and cooling loads : theories, models and computer programs
Sammanfattning : The need to estimate indoor temperatures, heating or cooling load and energy requirements for buildings arises in many stages of a buildings life cycle, e.g. at the early layout stage, during the design of a building and for energy retrofitting planning. Other purposes are to meat the authorities requirements given in building codes. LÄS MER
4. Sedation during mechanical ventilation in intensive care - Sedation practices and patients' memories, stressful experiences and psychological distress
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe and determine intensive care sedation in adult mechanically ventilated patients with the emphasis on patients? memory, stressful experiences and psychological distress. The results are based on a nationwide postal survey (Paper I) including 89 Swedish intensive care units (ICUs) followed by a prospective cohort study (Papers II?IV) conducted over 18 months in 2 ICUs including 313 mechanically ventilated adults admitted for more than 24 hours. 5. Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV) Systems in Commercial Buildings. Functional Requirements on Systems and Components
Sammanfattning : Demand controlled ventilation (DCV) is considered as an energy efficient solution forair-based cooling and indoor air quality control. Considerable energy savings can beachieved when the airflow rate is continuously adapted to the actual load condition. LÄS MER
