    Sammanfattning : Symptomatic atherosclerosis is commonly treated with balloon angioplasty or bypass surgery. About 30% of the interventions will re-narrow within a year due to restenosis and graft-stenosis. Thickening of the luminal layer, the intima, is an important component in these side-effects.     Sammanfattning : Autologous venous grafts are preferred conduits in bypass surgery due to their length, easy harvesting, and feasibility.     Sammanfattning : The present study examined the role of blood coagulation and fibrinolytic function in patients with coronary heart disease in two settings; in patients with precocious myocardial infarction in whom thrombosis is considered to constitute an important pathogenic mechanism and in unselected patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in whom early thrombotic occlusion of vein grafts is a considerable problem. For optimal treatment, a better understanding of the effects of inotropic drugs is needed.     Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) induce strong vasoconstriction via activation of receptors on vascular smooth muscle cells. In this thesis, the contractile Ang II and endothelin receptors were examined in endothelium-denuded human coronary arteries and in bypass grafts (the left internal mammary artery and the saphenous vein), with focus on receptor alterations in cardiovascular disease.
