  1. 1. Climate Change, Dengue and Aedes Mosquitoes : Past Trends and Future Scenarios

    Författare :Jing Liu-Helmersson; Joacim Rocklöv; Åke Brännström; Eduardo Massad; Richard Paul; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dengue; mathematical modelling; vectorial capacity; DTR; Aedes aegypti; Aedes albopictus; climate change; Europe; vector invasion; abundance; dengue; matematisk modellering; vektorkapacitet; DTR; Aedes aegypti; Aedes albopictus; klimatförändring; Europa; vektor invasion; epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background Climate change, global travel and trade have facilitated the spread of Aedes mosquitoes and have consequently enabled the diseases they transmit (dengue fever, Chikungunya, Zika and yellow fever) to emerge and re-emerge in uninfected areas. Large dengue outbreaks occurred in Athens in 1927 and in Portuguese island, Madeira in 2012, but there are almost no recent reports of Aedes aegypti, the principal vector, in Europe. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The development of synthetic gene delivery systems

    Författare :Lars J Brandén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :gene transfer; synthetic vector; gene therapy; Bioplex; PNA; NLS;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes a new platform technology. The technique is referred to as Bioplex (biological complex) in analogy with the nomenclature for other transfection reagents, since we attach biological functions to a nucleic acid complex via sequence-specific hybridisation. 3. 3. Amoebae as Hosts and Vectors for Spread of Campylobacter jejuni

    Författare :Jenny Olofsson; Patrik Ellström; Björn Olsen; Diana Axelsson-Olsson; Hans Lindmark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Amoebae-Bacteria interactions; Campylobacter jejuni; epidemiology; environmental stress; low pH; Acanthamoeba; coculture; intracellular trafficking; bacterial survival; beverages; ACC-method; enrichment; genetic stability; Trojan horse; reservoir; host; vector; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Campylobacter jejuni is the leading bacterial cause of gastrointestinal diarrheal disease in humans worldwide. This zoonotic pathogen has a complex epidemiology due to its presence in many different host organisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Functional antibody responses to the Plasmodium falciparum merozoite

    Författare :Hodan Ahmed Ismail; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmodium falciparum is a leading cause of death among children under the age of five and pregnant women in sub-Saharan Africa. More than one third of the world’s population is at risk of contracting malaria, and 70 % of the cases are found in sub-Saharan Africa. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interactions between leaf lesions and the phyllosphere microbiota in leafy vegetables

    Författare :Emina Mulaosmanovic; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Leafy vegetables (baby leaves) are considered an important source and vector for transmission of foodborne pathogens to humans. Contamination can occur from farm to fork. Although ‘rare’, contamination events have a substantial impact on public health. LÄS MER
